My excitement deflated, “You are gonna be an All-star, Ethan. You won’t be able to go ‘do something’ with me.”

“I’m not jinxing it by assuming I am in, just take the days off and we will see what happens.”

That was a month away and once they announced the All-star teams in a few weeks, I could just cancel the time offwhenhe made the team.

Didn’t hurt to at least put in the request.

“Ok deal.”

Chapter 5

Ethan

Chase: She told me to get lost, but gave me a cup of sugar beforehand, so there’s that.

Ethan: Just in case you really needed sugar. That’s Maddy for ya.

Chase: She is too sweet for my old ass to be stalking. I am going to get arrested.

Ethan: She gave you sugar.

Chase: ??

Ethan: She isn’t the kind of girl that will call the cops on you. She gave you fucking sugar.

Chase: Whatever. Where is my old ass stalking her tomorrow?

Ethan: I don’t know yet. But I think she’s going to The 678 with her friends.

Chase: Ugh, I hate bars

Ethan: Just a few more days

I tucked my phone into my pocket as we prepared for take-off.

Another plane flight.

Another city.

I loved being on the road, but I had spent most of the trip texting with Chase and getting updates on Madison.

So far, she had been at work or at home every time he stopped by. We had come up with every reason we could think of for him to “stop by.” At this point, she knew what we were up to. But my sweet Madison still gave him a band-aid, the time, some gas-ex, and now sugar.

Each time, she would give him a few choice words for his stalking efforts, but she was too much of an angel to let him leave without the fake reasons he showed up. After he left, she usually called me and gave me the same ass-chewing she gave him. Probably more. If I didn’t answer, she left me a semi rage-filled voicemail that ended with, “Do you hear me? Good. Love you, bye.”

Fucking angel.

I didn’t care if she got mad, though. She wasn’t out being crazy and trying to lose the V-card so I would take it as a win. Plus, she would forgive me.

Probably even thank me one day.

Tomorrow was the day I was dreading, though. The day when she and her friends would do another “girls night” and go out to a bar, drink too much, and she would get pressured—yet again—to "knock the dust off” and “loosen up.”

All of my cockblocking and damage control will have to hit the restart button. It was getting tiring but I wouldn’t quit until I came up with a way to keep her happy and keep me sane.

Let’s face it, at this rate, I owed Chase my first born for the amount of shit I was asking from him. But again, I didn’t care.

“Still got Turner on your girl’s tail?” Eddie asked as he sat beside me on the plane.
