“Where have you been?” He looked at her with judgement. “I’ve been trying to reach you.”

The morning had brought a lot of tension and I forgot to turn on my cell phone. “I must’ve forgotten to turn on my cell phone, darling. I didn’t realize.”

Dylan snapped. “Well, you should know better. Business is important and you’re my fiancée. We have an image to uphold.”

And boy, I knew it.

I had kept so many secrets just for the sake of the company and I was sick of it. The business wasn’t even part of my family, but it would be, and that was the only reason I put up with this madhouse. I wanted out, but it was too late for that now. My child’s father could be in this very room and it tied us together for the rest of our lives, even if he wasn’t.

But he doesn’t even know it.

“An extremely fake one.” I snapped back and didn’t look at him.

He came closer and pointed a finger at my hand on my belly. “Are you okay?”

His concern touched me when he had chosen not to use his ignorance, but I wished he hadn’t noticed. I had forgotten my hand was on my stomach that grew with a baby. And a high possibility of being his child, but I quickly removed it.

It was a shock to the system, but I straightened my posture. The truth was a secret, and it needed to stay that way. Even though I wanted to lay down and sleep the day away from exhaustion. But he couldn’t even get the hunch I was expecting, and it had to stay like this at all costs.

I raised my nose in the air and held it together. “I’m fine.”

“Well, that’s good, because I need you to be ready in an hour for our client’s twentieth wedding anniversary.” He huffed and made his way towards the refrigerator. “You made quite the impression on her and invited us as guests.”

I fondly remembered the client as Beverly. A pleasant older woman and wise beyond her years. The business dinner had been quite the occasion, and the deal was quite the celebration. D.S. Industries rose to the top because of it and it would be an honor to attend. I just wish I felt better and didn’t drag my feet through the entire event.

“I will be ready in an hour, darling.” I beamed with fakeness and he knew it.

He just didn’t know the truth about why.

He closed the fridge door and looked at my appearance. “Make sure you wear something far more suitable for the occasion. We wouldn’t want people to gossip, darling.”

I rolled my eyes at him and snapped. “I wouldn’t dream of it.”

WE ARRIVED AT THE SPECTACULARoccasion dressed to impress. Dylan wore a red suit with a bow tie to match the color of my attire and led the way. My arm looped through his and he acted like a true gentleman. Handsome as ever, with his brown hair combed to the side and deep eyes that shimmered. But I knew it was just that.

It was all an act.

He took me through double doors and into a palace suited for royalty. The castle walls shimmered with a gold touch and they set gigantic statues up for shock value. Enormous chandeliers hung from overhead and sparkled with the bright light. Anyone who set foot inside was treated like royalty, and it was an event like no other. Servers walked around with champagne and Dylan snagged one. He sipped the bubbling liquid and admired the view.

But someone caught his attention.

A man snagged his eye as his gaze roamed his backside, and I didn’t know how I never noticed it before. All the signs were there, but I had refused to follow them. If I did, maybe I wouldn’t be in this mess. I’d have a business degree finished and I could be at the top of my game, but I chose this life. I had to finish it and see where it led me.

And so far, straight to this party.

Pregnant and very alone. In a loveless relationship and soon to tie the knot. Hopelessly in love with a man I couldn’t have, because he made himself unavailable long ago.

And he stood right across from me.

Daxon watched me from across the crowded room, but I held my head high. I kept my composure together because I couldn’t afford to fall apart. He deserved to squirm, and I dressed myself to make his cock hard.

I wore a red sequined ball gown, and it had fantastic cleavage. It spilled out over the top of the feathered trim and I pulled my hair back in a sleek, high ponytail. Bright red lipstick was on my plump lips because it was my fiancé’s favorite and this evening was all about appearance.

An engaged couple in love.

But it couldn’t be further from the truth.
