“Something tells me that I’m still between those pretty little thighs too.”

I ran my finger over her collarbone, over her cleavage. I could yell at her for wearing something revealing, but I knew that would do all of shit. Instead, I made sure that the Raven second realized that he was playing with fire. As I passed him, I did a little more than just brush against him as I heard the win of X. I needed to get my head in the fight, and I just found my inspiration.

“Marked or not, you fucked with the wrong woman.” I flashed him something more menacing than a smirk over my shoulder. “See you in the ring, Paulson.”

I would win to spite her, and I would win to send a clear message to whoever wanted to touch what was mine.

TWENTY-ONE

“Fucking hell,”said the girl, Maddie, from the coffee shop.

I swallowed and watched the muscles of Cas’s back as he walked away.

“You want me to teach him a lesson, beautiful?”

I turned back to the guy in front of me. I wasn’t even sure who he was. He’d approached me. There had been no ulterior motive. I’d had every intention of just telling him to get lost, but it appeared Cas had done that for me. Dude just didn’t seem smart enough to pick up on it.

“I… don’t—” he cut me off with a finger over my lips. The move shocked me, and although I wasn’t looking at Cas, I was positive he somehow seen it all. That wasn’t good. I didn’t want Cas to lose because he was distracted. The guy in front of me was good looking, but the more he talked, I realized he might be on his final brain cell.

“I’ll win for you and then you can decide who’s the worthy man for you. Then,” he moved the same finger over my chin, down to my neck.

I was showing too much skin. It had been all fun and games until this slightly creepy guy started touching me.

“Then I’ll mark you properly.”

What did one say to that? He was probably just as dangerous as Cas. I didn’t think poking a bear was a good idea right now. Lucky for me, he swaggered off.

“Rylee, you didn’t tell me you knew the Raven’s second.”

I swallowed before turning back to Maddie and the other girl.

“I don’t, I swear.”

She shrugged.

“It’s the outfit. I told you that you looked hot.”

I looked down at what I was wearing. Maddie had come over an hour before she’d told me to meet her on orders of Winnie, apparently. I didn’t know an oversized t-shirt would make such a controversial outfit. The strategic cuts Maddie had put on the thing probably didn’t hurt. One shoulder was cut wide so that it slipped over my shoulder and left more skin showing than I normally would have been comfortable with. The belt pinched in the fabric, but it left it all the shorter.

I wasn’t sure what it was about everyone in my life dressing me up, but somehow, I didn’t hate it. I’d had no problem putting on some stiletto heels that had been sitting in a box for months. I’d bought them thinking they were hot, but I’d never had the courage to wear them, not until tonight. That seemed to be half my closet. The me I wanted to be and the me I was stuck with.

“Well, he sure as fuck knows you now. What did the all-powerful Cas have to say to you? He didn’t look happy.”

I shrugged, but my core clenched at the memory of what he’d said. What he’d reminded me of. I hadn’t had time to shower after he’d disappeared from my bed, and now I knew why he’d done the Houdini act. Except I still didn’t know why he had to. He could have tried to say goodbye. A few orgasms had me sleeping deeply, but I’d have woken for a proper goodbye. I guess I should have been happy Maddie had come by or I’d have slept through this.

“He wanted me to wish him luck,” I finally answered.

She smirked.

“Right. The head of the Spectors leans in and whispers to all the ladies for good luck.”

Her words bounced around in my skull.

“Head?”

That got me a snort from her and the girl next to her. Both of them had a small, but still there tattoo that marked them as part of the Spectors, but that had seemed fine. Gang affiliations didn’t mean they were bad people. It meant they were like me once. Stuck, and I was just lucky to have a savior. But something about him had been bugging me.
