I shake my head and sigh.

“You’ve really let Hollywood go to your head, haven’t you, man?”

Everyone has a good laugh at Ryker’s expense, but he’s a good sport about it. I check the time.

“I’m supposed to meet Emory in a couple of hours. Do you know why Jax called me into the office?”

“Yeah, Harlowe wants to talk to you.”

I frown. I’m not a tech minded guy, and that’s what she’s all about. I’m not sure what she wants to talk to me about, unless I screwed something up.

“All right. Where is she?”

“In her office,” Grayson says, “but I would knock first.”

Unfortunately, I started opening the door right before Grayson finished his sentence. Thus, I catch Bastian and Harlowe kissing, hard, with his hand inside her shirt.

“Oh shit, sorry.”

They look up at me, less embarrassed than I am.

“I told you to lock the door,” Harlowe says, elbowing Bastian in the ribs.

“Sorry. We’ll pick this up later.”

They share knowing grins and I step out of the way so he can exit. I clear my throat.

“So, you wanted to see me?”

“Yes. I need a favor from you.”

She was instrumental in helping me save the life of the woman I love, so I don’t even have to consider my answer.

“Name it.”

She sighs, and covers her mouth with her hand.

“It’s my brother, Dane.”

I sit down and cock an eyebrow at her.

“Is he in some kind of trouble?”

“No, not really. He’ll be getting out of the Navy soon, and I’m worried about him adjusting to civilian life. I was hoping maybe you’d, I don’t know, watch out for him, I guess.”

“He’s in the Navy, huh?”

“Yes. He’s a sniper.”

I grunt low in my throat. I get it. Snipers bear a heavy burden. I get the impression there’s some baggage Harlowe’s not telling me about, too.

“I’ll do what I can, but I’m not a psychiatrist.”

“No, you’re not, and that’s what makes you perfect. I’m not expecting a miracle or anything, but he carries around a lot of guilt. I thought you might understand that.”

“I do. Believe me. All right, I assume he’s been put on the pipeline to a job with the firm?”

She chuckles. “You assume correctly. But he keeps turning down offers to join Platinum Security. I really don’t want him to be on his own after he gets out, you know? He’s a good man, maybe a little too serious. I really appreciate this, Cole.”
