My vision blurs, and the last thing that I see before darkness claims me is Lila’s poor, terrified face as she screams my name.

CHAPTER THIRTY

KIERAN

It took a few days longer than I wanted to get my affairs in order, but now things are going to be handled properly. I nearly take Liam’s door right off of its hinges with how forcefully I kick the thing in. I knew that it was a mistake to trust him. I knew that it was going to be something that I was going to come to regret. It was a risk to take him at his word and give him a second chance. I never usually give those, and this is exactly why I never was stupid enough to let anybody close enough to fuck me over this completely.

Liam jerks in surprise when he sees me coming. He’s lounging on his couch, dicking around on his phone and doesn’t seem to know why I’m here. The fact that he’s being so casual about ruining the only good thing that I had left in my life would be enough for my fist to meet his teeth until they give way. I don’tpause, I don’t say a single word to him before I sock him a good one right in the jaw.

“What the fuck man?!” Liam shouts, scrambling away from me like he doesn’t deserve everything coming to him.

“Why?” It’s the only word that I can force through the way my teeth are grinding together.

“What happened?! Cousin, what’s-”

Calling me his cousin like there is any sort of bond left between us whatsoever only fuels my rage. He’s the only one who knew where my hideout was. He’s the only one who saw Ada there. He spoke to her. He saw us together, he knew how I felt and the full extent of my plan and yet he decided to choose his father like the pathetic little bitch that I always suspected that he was.

Again, and again. I can’t seem to stop hitting him. He keeps trying to run away from me. I brought guns and knives. I had a whole plan for how I was going to make him pay for what he has done, but now that I’m here, I want to feel this fucker’s life force fade with my own bare fucking hands. Because of his selfish, cowardly actions I have lost Ada forever. Now that she’s in that bastard’s fortress and I don’t have anybody backing me, she’s untouchable. I will never hold her in my arms again, and for what?

Blood coats Liam’s teeth as he brings his arms up to shield his face, tensing his core and doing his best to block my punches allthe while kicking me away from him. “What the hell happened?! What the fuck is wrong with you?!”

“She’s gone! You fucking bastard! Are you fucking happy?!” I scream, I can’t stop - I can’t even feel my limbs. I can’t see anything but red. My lungs feel like shards of glass in my chest and I think I would have to be hit with a car to stop. I’ve never been this tripped out on adrenaline before. Nothing has ever pushed me like this.

“What the fuck- Kieran! Cousin! I don’t know… the fuck… fuckingstopKieran!” Liam shouts in self defense. Finally, he manages to get far enough away to kick me solidly in the chest, knocking the wind out of me.

I try to suck in air so that I can keep moving, but Liam wisely puts more distance between us. “Fuck!” Liam shouts, spitting blood on the floor of his apartment and rubbing at his jaw as if checking to see if it’s broken or not. He doesn’t have much longer until I recover. Then, I’m going to peel his skin off and feed it to him. I’ll enjoy it too. If he was smart, he would fucking run. “What do you mean? Ada’s gone?! I didn’t have anything the fuck to do with that! I was careful!”

I try to speak, but my lungs are spasming. “You fucking lie! You’re the only one who knew!”

Liam shakes his head, denying it even now. Then something occurs to him and Liam visibly pales in front of me. His eyes are wide with a mix of what looks like pain and confusion. I ball my fist at my side. I’m not going to let him talk his way out of this.

“Think, damn it!” I hiss, breathing slowly starting to come more easily. “How fucking careful were you?!”

“The car…” Liam sinks onto the arm of the couch, looking like he’s going to be sick. The hollow look of despair is the only thing that makes me think he might actually be telling the truth. “I used one of the family cars…he must have had a tracker in it.”

The implications hits me like a truck. My knees finally buckle. I try to catch myself on the armchair and end up in a strange position as my adrenaline cuts me off like a bucket of ice water dumped over my head.

Patrick must have known where I was the whole time. The old, conniving bastard was watching me, waiting me out until he could find the best time to strike. When he failed to kill me, that’s when he did it. He must have sold me out to the Dominios so that he could still make me his fall guy.

It’s still Liam’s error. Something feral growls up my throat and I advance on Liam again, ripping him back up to his feet and slamming him against the wall. I’m just about to hit him again for good measure when Liam’s burner phone rings. The harsh sound cuts through the tension like a knife. Frozen, the phone’s shrill ring fills the silence. Liam reaches for it with trembling fingers, but I snatch it out of his reach and answer it myself.

“Uncle.” I already know it’s him. My voice is rough, barely containing my rage.

Patrick’s voice comes through, smooth and mocking. “Kieran, my boy, I see you’ve found out about our little surprise. I have her. If you want Ada back, you know where to find me. Come tonight. Alone.”

My heart pounds in my chest. I glance at Liam, who is still slumped against the wall, blood trickling from his split lip. Without another word, I hang up the phone and throw it back at Liam.

“You’d better hope she’s okay,” I growl before storming out.

The drive to the meeting place is a blur.

My mind races with thoughts of Ada and the dangerous game Patrick is playing. I know it’s a trap, but I can’t leave Ada in Patrick’s sadistic hands.

I park a distance away and make my way towards the entrance. I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to get Ada back.

The interior of the warehouse is dimly lit, shadows casting eerie shapes on the walls. I move slowly, creeping through the space looking for any sign of Ada and whether or not she’s alive. She better be. Not even Patrick wants to take Cristiano’s army head on like that.

I finally see her, my heart sinking at the dismal sight. She’s terrified, tied to a chair in the middle of the room. A spotlight shines down on her perfect face, begging for me to run to her. Patrick might as well have rolled out red tape to lead me right to where he wants me.
