“Okay, Daddy.”

“Good girl. I’m going to have a quick chat with Kylie in my office and then we are going to go home.”

He motioned Kylie into his office and shut the glass pane filled door. He kept an eye on Makenzie as he spoke. “Thanks for coming when you found it. Can you send a text to the submissive’s group chat and explain what is going on? You said several are on that forum.”

“Yes, they are. I’ve already received a couple of texts asking me how well we know Makenzie. One in particular is afraid of being doxed.”

“I appreciate it. Don’t give any more information than necessary but let them know her account was hacked and it’s not her. I’m going to take her home and get her mind off this. In the meantime, can you screenshot any activity that appears on her account and text it to me and Jay? I’ll call him and let him know what is going on.”

“Should you call Dax?” Kylie inquired after a local detective who was also good friends of theirs.

“Not yet. If the perpetrator lives out of state, I’m not sure he will be able to do much good. Besides, what I have in mind for the bastard is outside of what he can turn a blind eye to.”

Kylie nodded. “I hope you find him, and I hope you castrate him.”

“Based on the verbiage of the posts, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have balls to castrate.” Irish said ominously. “One more favor, see who is available for a playdate tonight and text me. I’m hopefully going to get Makenzie into Little space and keep her there for a bit.”

“Got it. Anything else?”

“No. Thank you Kylie, I appreciate it.”

“Always. Irish, I’ve served beside you in combat, I know how you work. Please, don’t do anything that will leave Makenzie without you. She needs you.”

“I hear what you are saying, Kylie, but nobody hurts what is mine and lives to do it again.”

CHAPTER 12

MAKENZIE

“Ready to go princess?” Irish asked her, coming out of his office. She’d already said goodbye to Kylie and was sitting at her desk, waiting for Irish to get off the phone. Watching him through the glass, she took in his furrowed brow and tightness of his shoulders. Oh, he was angry all right.

“Yeah, I’m ready.” She grabbed her bag from the counter and stood to join him. Stepping out onto the sidewalk of Main Street, she waited for him to call Clover and lock up. He locked the door and turned toward her, the scowl still tight across his face. She knew, logically, that he wasn’t upset with her, but still, she couldn’t help but feel guilty.

If she hadn’t come here to the picture-perfect small town of Grand Ridge, he wouldn’t be tossed into her drama. She should have just married Eugene and lived a quiet, if passionless, life. But no, she had to run away on her wedding day and trip and fall in love with her brother’s best friend. Who did that?

You are in love with your brother’s best friend.

The realization hit her like a glass of ice-cold water. She did love him. Was she going to end up ruining this like she had single handedly ruined everything else?

“In you go, princess,” he commanded, holding the front door of the truck open for her. She got in and waited for her to fasten her seatbelt across her chest. It was one of the daddy things he liked doing and she enjoyed having him do. It made her feel taken care of. Soon they were driving toward his house. The vibrating of their phones in his briefcase, constant reminders of the drama unfolding, was unsettling.

“It’s still early,” she said. “What are we going to do when we get home?”

Home.

She’d already started referring to his house as home.

And it was more a home to her than anywhere else she’d lived since graduating from high school and going to college. Irish’s home was a cozy blanket on a cold night. Whenever she entered it, she felt warm and safe.

“What we are going to do is have a little chat about your behavior at work, you are going to spend some time over my knee and then I’m going to tuck you in for a nice long nap. While you sleep, I’m going to make a few phone calls and take care of the problem.”

He did not just say that. Her belly flip-flopped again, and her butt clenched in the seat.

“I don’t know why I said what I did,” she began.

“I do.”

“You do?”
