I grin. “Ah, Stacey.”

“As I recall, you got kicked off the team after you got caught smoking with Stacey in the back of the bus.”

“Worth it.”

“Was it worth all the Saturdays Dad made you work at the store to pay back the money for the suit they bought you?”

Since her dad owns the hardware store in town and working for him sparked my interest in building things, it was. “Yep.”

“Men,” she mutters and picks up the mug I left next to the coffee pot.

“There’s milk in the fridge and sugar on the table.”

“No sugar for me.”

“Since when don’t you drink sugar in your coffee?” She used to pour a cup of the white stuff in her coffee in high school.

She makes a face. “Since I gained the freshmen fifteen in college.”

“You weren’t fat.” I remember when she came home from Christmas break her freshman year. All of her weight gain went straight to her hips and boobs. I could barely keep my hands to myself. I spent most of the two weeks she was home avoiding her.

“I also wasn’t rich and didn’t have money to buy a new wardrobe since I went up two sizes in clothing.”

Her parents would have gladly paid for new clothes for her, but I don’t remind her of how much money they have. Sophia has an independent streak a mile wide. She doesn’t need any help from her parents.

She pours herself a coffee and adds a bit of milk before taking her first sip. She sighs. “Thank god for coffee.”

“You didn’t sleep well last night?”

A blush spreads across her cheeks and I can’t help but wonder how far her blush reaches. Do her breasts turn a pretty shade of pink when she’s aroused?

My cock twitches. He’s ready to discover the answer to my question now. He doesn’t want to wait to spread her out on the kitchen counter and have her for breakfast.

I clear my throat and force myself to calm the hell down. Sophia is not on the menu for breakfast. Not today. Not any day.

“I never sleep well in a new bed.”

“Is your mattress uncomfortable? You can switch it with mine,” I offer before my brain realizes sleeping on the mattress Sophia slept on last night is asking for trouble.

“The mattress is fine. I need to adjust to how quiet it is here is all.”

“You didn’t miss Smuggler’s Hideaway while you were gone?”

I cross my feet at the ankles and lean against the kitchen island while Sophia leans against the counter opposite me. She’s close enough to touch, but I’m keeping my hands to myself.

Her lips tilt up in a barely there smile. “Nowhere can compare to Smuggler’s Hideaway.”

“Did you enjoy living in Atlanta?”

“I did. It’s vibrant and lively and there’s always something happening – a concert, a festival, the list goes on and on. Every weekend was a new adventure.”

I frown. The idea of her being in a city all by herself with no family nearby to help out in case of an emergency makes me feel anxious. I’m glad she’s back home. Even if her being home is a temptation I could do without.

“Will you miss working in a big city? Lots more job opportunities than on the island.”

She scowls. “Lots more assholes, too.”

I’m on her before I realize my feet are moving. “What happened?”
