“Yeah. Hale’s a shit-stirrer. He told me to check out the new dance studio on Main Street to find you.”

Fucking Hale.

“I need to do a few more things then call it a night. It was a long day.” And I just wanted to curl into bed with Anna.

“You sure? I’ve got some fine girls I met at Starbucks coming to meet us. You need to get laid, man.”

For a second, I couldn’t even respond. Then finally, I shook my head. “I’m good.”

“Seriously? You’ve been abstinent for like a year or something, right? These girls are ready to go, I’m telling you.”

“Not interested, Jonah. And why the hell were you at Starbucks?”

“Needed a nice environment to write. They’ve got cool vibes there.”

“You’re actually turning into a cliché. Since when did you become a hipster?”

“Fuck off, dude.” He marched for the door. “If you change your mind, there’s a pretty blonde waiting at the Drunk Pelican for you.” Then he grinned and walked out the door.

I locked it behind him, relieved that my safety precautions always had me doing that. I’m not sure how much blood would’ve been on these floors had Jonah walked in on me with Anna on her knees and my dick in her mouth a few minutes ago.

A pretty blonde waiting for me. Like I cared. There was also a pretty blonde now storming out of her office with her purse on her shoulder. She marched straight to the mirror and bent to pick up her phone where she’d left it. She was fuming.

“Hey, hey.” I grabbed her by the shoulders to face me. “Look, we’ll tell your parents together. It’ll be fine.”

“I don’t care about that. I’m mad that my stupid brother is trying to set you up with some blond bimbo barista.”

I laughed, which wasn’t the smart thing to do. She wiggled to get free, but I held her tighter, pulling her into my chest. She kept her arms at her sides and looked away.

“I have no intentions of taking your brother up on his offer. I have exactly what I want right here in my arms.”

“He’s an asshat.”

“Yeah.” I nuzzled into her hair and kissed her neck. “He is.”

She huffed and let out a breath. “I don’t want to keep secrets anymore.”

“I know.” I pulled back to look at her. “We’re going to tell your parents about the studio on Sunday.”

“No.” She staked me with those sweet brown eyes that could make me do anything. “We’re telling them about us.”

I stiffened, mulling that over. I didn’t want to keep us a secret either, but I also didn’t want to overwhelm them with two giant blows at one time. And I wanted to live in our peaceful bubble a little longer before I had to deal with the possibility my best friend might hate me after this.

“Are you embarrassed to be with me?” She tilted her head defiantly.

“Hell no. Of course not.”

“Then we’re telling them.”

“Fine.”

She wiggled loose, her temper still spiking. “I’m going to go.”

“No, you’re not.” I plucked her purse off her shoulder and tossed it aside.

She caught the look in my eyes and started backing up. “I’m not in the mood.”

“Why?” I continued to corral her back toward the mirror. “Because Jonah made you jealous of some girl I have no intention of hooking up with?”
