“If she woke up from her coma, they must have moved her to a private room as I ordered. There’s definitely a phone there.”

“I’m dying to hear her voice, but I also want to tell her what happened because she must be so confused. I need to let her know that you’ve provided documentation for all of us.”

I lean back a little in my chair to watch her. “Doesn’t it bother you that I always take the lead in everything?”

“You’re helping me, not trying to dominate me. If that was the case, I would have already asked you tomove over.”

Fuck, why does everything that comes out of my sorceress’s mouth have to be so exciting?

I clear my throat because it took me less than three minutes to forget that I must restrain myself from laying her on my desk and taking her from behind. Zoe makes me hungry and horny just by standing close to me. No matter how many times we have sex, my desire just doesn’t fade.

“My mother wants to meet you.”

She stares at me.

“What?”

“Do you want me to meet her?”

I don’t need to think about it. “Yes, I do.”

“I won’t lie.”

“About what?”

“About being in the process of getting a divorce. I think she won’t like to hear that.”

“My mom isn’t like that, Zoe. She’s Greek and can be pretty conservative, but above all, she believes in happiness.”

“Well, I think we have the right ingredients, then, Mr. Lykaios. Or should I call youdoctor, as the help do?”

I smack her on the ass. “Sassy.”

“Only with you,” she smiles.

“Why do we have the right ingredients, Zoe?”

“Huh?”

“When I said my mother believes in happiness, you said that our relationship has the right ingredients.”

“I can only speak for myself. You make me happy, Christos. If that’s what’s important, we are off to a good start.”

Zoe

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

“Zoe,we’re really alive, aren’t we? I was scared to death that something had happened to you. I woke up terrified. Thank Mr. Lykaios for appointing an exclusive nurse for me. When I woke up, she gave me all the information I needed to calm my heart.”

I can’t believe it when I hear her voice. “I didn’t know he’d done that.”

Christos is unbelievable. He told me he’s not a saint, but I don’t believe in saints or people who are always good.

Everyone has a dark side.

After the years I spent in the orphanage, I know that life is not a bed of roses. What matters, though, is that he’s good where it counts.

He’s dedicated to all those he . . .loves? Is love what he feels for me? He didn’t tell me back when I confessed it the other day, but he still shows he cares for me with every action.
