It doesn’t takeme long to remember why she’s my weakness. I showed her downtown Seattle. I’m sure she’s seen it but not with me. Pikes Market seemed to hold her hostage. Especially this one table of fresh flowers. So I bought her all of them. I don’t know whose face was funnier, hers or the owner of the table.

Currently she has her face smashed to the window of Seattle's Great Wheel. Watching ships sail. I plan to bring her back afterthe sun has gone down so she can experience it at night when it lights up and changes colors.

My phone rings and I ignore it. Whoever needs a fixer, they can find another.

But then it rings again and I grunt. “What?” I snap into it.

“Atticus, that’s no way to talk to your friend,” Luca sings into the phone.

“What do you want?”

“A pretty prisoner between-”

“Four seconds before I hang up.” I growl.

He chuckles, “We have an emergency.”

“Then call the cops, I’m busy.”

“We need you. Now.” He hangs up and I glower at the blank screen.

Guess my day of normalcy is up.

I hookmy arm possessively around Constance as we enter Andrea’s, the Don’s, home. I didn’t want to bring her, but the urgency in Luca’s voice told me play time was over.

Constance stares at the neutral tones of the home. The geometrical pieces that complement the elegant, yet simple chandeliers. The long arched windows, and the arches that break each room up. Very much in touch with their Italian culture and roots.

We step into a study as the two brothers talk quietly. Luca looks up, eyes sparkling.

“Take your eyes off her, now,” I snap, being the possessive asshole that I am.

I remember the way he looked at her when he brought her back to me.

“Atticus,” Constance whispers.

I narrow my eyes, taking a seat and pulling Constance onto my lap. I catch the tiny curl of her lips before she looks away completely, causing a smirk to start spreading across my face. I band my arms around her waist, pulling her until she’s flushed with my chest and I can rest my head on her shoulder.

“What’s going on?” I ask.

I don’t want to inflate my ego or anything, but I think only I could stun the Don and Underboss.

Luca blinks, and then pushes papers towards me. I snatch the papers, my jaw setting hard as I stare at the person in it. “We need him eliminated.”

“And why can’t you do it?” I can’t keep the bite out of my tone.

“Because it’s bad for business to have the owners gut a paying customer.”

“What did he do?” But I already know the answer.

“He’s raped one of the workers and is hassling the rest. We didn’t know about this until today. We need him gone, and that’s what you do, isn’t that right, fixer?”

“Which business?” But I know that answer too.

“Deep.”

The sex club, which doesn’t surprise me in the least. I guess old dogs really can’t learn new tricks.

The Deep isa place I would never bring Constance to. But she said she really wanted to come and maybe even play. If she’s not playing with me then it’s not fucking happening. I’ve already committed three murders in my mind just by men looking at her.
