“Oh, stop,” my mother chided playfully, slapping his shoulder before she reached up to shake Connor’s hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“Hopefully, only good stuff.” He joked, giving her hand a firm shake before drawing his hand back.

Hunter then motioned towards me. “And this is Latoya, though I’ve just recently learned she likes being called Toya.” He turned to shake my hand.

“Ms. Toya.” He met my gaze, and I easily spotted the uncertainty in his eyes as he took my hand. “Nice to meet you.”

“Pleasure.” He let go of my hand and took a step back to pull his chair out to take a seat. “So, what did I miss?” he asked as he lifted the fabric napkin and sat it in his lap.

“Nothing much, I was talking to Toya about the high school she went to, and funnily enough, she went to the same one as you.”

His smiled stiffened. I wondered if he’d lost his ability of lying over these ten years. As he reluctantly turned to face me, I continued eating pieces of the salmon on my plate, forcing myself to remain not only calm, but ambivalent.

“Um, what year did you graduate?” he asked, clearing his throat.

Before I answered him, I reached for the glass wine cup and took a large swallow. Lowering the cup, I glanced at him from the corner of my eyes and let a smirk play at my lips. “2008.”

He jerked as if punched.

That simple movement gave me untold pleasure.

The rest of the dinner was smooth as I continued to pretend I had no knowledge of him, and Connor admirably kept the flow of conversation up; he was obviously accustomed to it. He kept my mother laughing and his father chuckling. I would add bits here and there, and every time I spoke, his body would tense. It was interesting to be able to control a person by merely speaking.

“Excuse me, I need to use the ladies’ room.” Rising, I gave a small smile to my mother to let her know I wasn’t going to decapitate someone. While a murderous urge rode me, I would wait to let out my anger later. For now, remaining calm and collected would get me through the situation.

“Hey.”

His voice caused my back to tighten as soon as I exited the bathroom. He leaned against the wall a few steps away. “Let’s talk.”

He seemed serious, form his stance of legs apart and hands buried in his pockets. His eyes were hard, it felt like any moment, he’d jump at me and grab me. I shouldn’t expect anything less from my former tormentor and bully. He had always dominated everything with strength. Though, this time, if he tried to use it, I wouldn’t be so willing to bend to it.

“…Lets,” I said, moving towards him only to pass him. “But let’s not do it in such an obvious place. After all--” I paused throwing a mocking look over my shoulder-- “We wouldn’t want your daddy to know the real you.”

He frowned, his eyes growing dark at my words.

Facing forward, I continued forward going towards the terrace doors that led outside.

Let us see what he has to say.

He followed so easily, I moved a little ways from the door, taking in the night view of the city. I turned to face him, I should have been surprised when his hand jerked up, and he grabbed me by my throat, forcing me to stagger back slamming my back against the wall.

I winced, blinking hard.

“You won’t say shit.”

His words were hard, and his eyes had completely lost the charming light they’d had earlier.

So, it had been an act, his nervousness had been a show. Interesting.

His eyes narrowed on me. “If I’d known my dad would get with the mother of pig from school, I would’ve definitely told him to get rid of that shitty app.”

I wanted to laugh, but laughing would ruin his bad boy act, so instead, I lifted a hand and slowly wrapped my fingers around his wrist and whimpered, “C-Connor, please-!” I desperately whispered as his hand tightened slightly on my throat. “H-hurts-!”

His nostrils flared as he scented weakness. I knew if I looked down, his nice fitting suit pants would be flared. It was almost sad how easy he was.

“That’s right, no matter what, my dad better not learn about our past.” He took a step closer, the scent of his cologne caused a curious flutter in my chest.

Curiouser, and Curiouser.
