Twisted Game : Her Revenge, His Desire

L.B. Keen

Prologue

Hell. I was made for it.

It suffocates me from the inside out. Taking away all rational thought, I pretend I’m fine for the sake of my mother. The loss of my father was a blow that still causes her skin to lose its rosy under tone. She had loved him--he hadn’t loved her.

It must be the curse of the women in our family to lose those we love. Every woman in our family has lost their first spouse; some say we’re linked to some ugly words spoken by an executed Salem witch. I’ve never looked into it.

“Have you had enough, pig?”

The scathing question intrudes into my maudlin thoughts. I could suddenly feel the cold water hitting my chest, sliding down and pooling below me, where I kneeled on a tiled ground. Sound returned with a thundering roar, and the reality I’d been ignoring came back almost in HD color.

“It’s rude to ignore the person who’s trying to help you,” the male voice added. Its source, a masculine young-man of blue eyes and black locks. I still couldn’t pinpoint when I’d become his target, or why. Connor, was the epiphany of Popular Jock.

How a quiet bookworm like me had caught his attention was still in the air.

“Ha! She should be grateful we’re trying to clean her.” This was said by his best friend, a brown-haired, amber-eyed male: his number two. Travis always seemed to get a certain glint in his eyes when Connor played his games. “Are you sure she wouldn’t be better off in the pool?” he asked for the third time.

Since they’d jumped me in the hallway and dragged me to the out of the way pool storage room, he’d been egging Connor to toss me in the pool.

“Well,” Jasper mused aloud as he turned his eyes to me. “What do you think? Piggy, do you want to take a swim?”

I didn’t say anything, why would I? Connor would do what he wanted. The only power I had in this situation was whether or not I reacted.

His eyes narrowed on me. Anger flashing there when I didn’t give anything away. Tossing the hose in his hands away, he glared at me. “I think a swim is exactly what you need, Piggy.”

And as I expected, Connor and Travis moved forward grabbing me up by my arms. They roughly pulled me out of the storage room, and gleefully inched closer to the pool. The blue depths should have caused a panic to rise. Nothing came, nothing ever came.

With a shout, they tossed me forward. Hitting the surface hard, I floundered for only a second as I found my bearings and let go. The water was something I loved. The way it encased one’s body and formed to you.

I was most comfortable in water.

As I stared up at the surface, I blinked at the sight of Connor trying to see deeper. My lips curled up, poor boy. The pool wouldn’t allow him to see my ‘suffering’, and that was his favorite part.

And since the start of this twisted game, I’d decided to never give him that.
