Time Moves On

In the days to come Seth pursued me endlessly. I fought off temptation relentlessly. I wouldn’t listen to his apologies least I would give in to him once again. The thought of letting Seth penetrate the shell I surrounded myself in sent a tremor down my body. The thought of quitting my job stayed on my mind but I had finally found something I loved to do. That was to sing. I didn’t want another job. I wanted this one, even if it meant running into Seth. He was my boss after all. I could remain professional and hoped my feelings for him would die down.

The weather had begun deteriorating as autumn had almost worn out its days in the season and soon, winter would be birthed. Cold breezes from the nights air floated freely through the night, whispering unfathomable words into my ears and making my hair fly helter skelter as I walked outside the lounge. My shift was over and since it’s Friday night, Regina had promised to pick me up. She wanted me to go with her to a new club one of her coworkers told her about.

“Thanks for picking me up Gina,” I said as we stood outside Club Metro. I had changed into a short blue dress after my set at work. I was glad that I hadn’t run into Seth all night.

We had entered the club just when she began to reply. “No problem, honey. I know you have been going through some things lately. I wanted you to take a load off and have some fun,” Gina gave me a comforting smile. “Look, there’s my friend now,” she added pointing towards the bar.

“You always know exactly what I need my friend,” I replied. We then made a direct bee line towards the bar.

“Hey Regina, I’m glad you made it,” A tall, blond-haired man stepped forward. He had been leaning against the bar with a beer in his hand. He set the beer aside to hug my friend. “Who do we have here?” He looked down at me with curious grey eyes.

“Trey this is my best friend Khadejah. Khadejah this is my work buddy Trey,” Regina said as she made the introductions.

“Hello, it’s nice to meet you Trey,” I said, with a smile on my face. I sent Regina a perplexed look. She didn’t tell me we were meeting anyone here. Trey's smile beamed as he looked down at me.

“I was going to have a word with Regina if she was trying to set me up on a blind date. What did she not understand that I was through with men. I had to admit that Trey was cute, but I was in no way inclined to meet anyone new. I looked over at Regina and gave her a narrowed eyed glance.

“What do you ladies want to drink? My boyfriend is the bartender and he makes the best drinks,” Trey said drawing my attention to him once again.

“Your boyfriend is the bartender,” I repeated his words expelling a relieved breath.

“Yeah,” he grinned before signaling to the bartender.

“Hey babe, what can I do for ya?” the tall dark haired man loomed before us. He was gorgeous with muscles galore and tattoos on his forearms.

“This is my good friend Regina and her friend Khadejah. Give these lovely ladies whatever they want and put it on my tab,” Trey informed his boyfriend.

“Nice to meet both of you. I’ve heard a great deal about you Regina. If I wasn’t secure in my relationship with Trey, I would be jealous in the way he speaks of you. Almost daily,” he said giving Gina a teasing wink. Now what do you all want to drink?” His grin grew wider when he looked my way.

“You guys looks so cute together I chimed in. I think I want a long island ice tea.”

“Thanks sweetheart,” the bartender gave me a wink.

“I’ll have the same thing,” Regina said.

“Two long island ice teas coming right up,” the bartender started to walk away before Trey’s voice called out to stop him.

“Hey, what about me?” Trey asked.

“I already know what you like,” the bartender chuckled and left to fix our drinks. Trey was lucky to have such a handsome and rugged boyfriend who complemented his model looks.

“Whew, I’m glad you weren’t trying to set me up on a date,” I leaned over to whisper to Regina.

“Girl, I ain’t crazy. I know it’s too soon for that sort of thing. You can’t fall out of love with Seth that quick anyway. You’re not made up like that.”

“I don’t know about that. It seems I fell out of love with Darren pretty fast.”

“I don’t think you ever really loved Darren in the first place. I think you were comfortable with Darren. When you used to call me and talk about Darren there was no passion there. I always wondered was he the right one for you, but I never voiced my opinion until now,”

I knew Regina’s words were true, but I never deliberated on the indepthness of my love for Darren in the past. I didn’t have anyone to compare Darren to until Seth walked into my life. Seth was a hurricane when Darren was only a rain shower. Seth Redding made every vein in my body throb. Why was I thinking of Seth? He was no good for me and must be put out of my mind.

“Wow! Regina tells me you are a singer—” Trey’s voice brought me back from my deep thoughts. I titled my head to look up at him.
