“Don't make me go, please. Open the door, I'm sorry.” I heard her sob loudly through the closed door. I waited until I was sure Ashley had left. I needed to find Khadejah and fast. I hoped she hadn't left the building. I frantically went searching for her through the lounge area. I even went to her dressing room, but Khadejah wasn't there. My stomach muscles shift uneasily, and my eyes flicker around the room. I can smell the residue of her essence.

“Damn,” I grated out. I turn on my heels and make my way out of the room and to the bar. “Randy, have you seen Khadejah around anywhere?”

“Yeah, boss. She left a little while ago.”

“Fuck! I made my way to my office without a word.” I would become immersed in work to settle my mind.

Later the club was almost empty when I glanced at the time. I didn't realize how long I had stayed locked in my office until I heard a persistent rapt on the door that jeered me back to reality.

“It's past 2:00 a.m., and we're almost close to shutting down,” Jane announced as she peeked in through the slightly opened door after I granted permission to whoever it was that was knocking to come on in.

“Oh my gosh!” I grunted, and I looked into my wristwatch. I had fallen asleep somewhere along the line in my deep thought alone in the sanctuary of my office.

“Are you okay, sir?” my assistant asked with her eyes fixed on the almost drained bottle of vodka that sat on the desk in front of me.

“Yeah... Yeah, I'm all right.” I stammered in reply. I saw that she continued standing there at the door, then I remembered it was the normal routine to get last orders from me before closure for the night. “Just do what you have to do Jane. I'll be out in a moment.” I told her as I tried to push a stubborn lock of my hair back in place. I noticed Jane give me a concerned look just before she excused herself from my presence.

I had had enough of the toxic air Ashley carried and why I had to realize it a little after meeting Khadejah was something I found puzzling. Could it be that I had fallen for Khadejah at first sight? That was a mystery I knew would take care of itself sooner or later.

I stood immediately, jumping to my feet as I turned and walked out of the building. My legs were weighty, and my heart was ready to explode. I drove home from the club that night, Khadejah was all the thought that darkened my mind. I wondered how she would be feeling.

My feet became heavier with each step I took, and my head ached as if it was on the verge of pulling off. Damn! I must have been psycho to have gone in drinking vodka when it always had that kind of after effect on me. I just hoped I didn't fall on my face before I got to where my pain reliever for this insistent throb in my head was.

My jawbone tautened, and I breathed in a deep breath through my nostrils. Anger at the situation Ashley had caused ripped through me. My heart grew heavy, dragging me down to the wallow in distress.

Khadejah’s ex-boyfriend had crushed her heart, now it looked like I was doing the same just when she started to trust me a little--, to open herself up for me to love her in the way she needed to be love. Now one bitchy woman has fucked that up for me. I can’t allow Khadejah to be snatched away from me because of my past with women. A history that I’m more than willing to give up for her.

I would forever regret causing her pain. I wasn’t a praying man, but I sat there behind my desk and silently prayed that Khadejah would forgive me, for hurting her like that bastard Darren. I never meant for my past as a womanizer to come between what I wanted to build with her. I know I don’t deserve an angel like Khadejah, but that wasn’t going to deter me from trying to acquire having her by my side for the long haul. I must fight because my beloved Khadejah is worth fighting for. I'll do anything. To make her mine.

Khadejah Butler is all I've ever wanted in a woman. Khadejah is all I've ever desired. The need to rush over to her apartment filled me.

I needed to beg her to give me another chance. I desired to hold her, kiss her, love her until I healed every vestige of Khadejah’s pain. But I had sense enough to know when a woman needed her space. I would give her tonight, but I would not... I could not have the strength or the patience to stay away forever.
