“Queen Kelendria, I am at your service. Whatever you ask of me, I shall do it to the best of my abilities.” A chorus of giggles filled the air, and when I straightened back up, I swear Laine and Lois were two seconds from full-on swooning.

“That’s not a bad British accent,” Kelly complimented with a smile. “Let me guess, a Harry Potter fan?”

I shook my head. “Never read the books or watched the movies. I’m more of a comic kind of guy, and before you ask, I like both Marvel and DC!”

Her laughter rang in my ears.

“Lighting’s ready,” Leonard announced. “Let’s get started since these ladies have to get going soon. Plus, we have several outfit changes for this shoot and that’s going to take up a lot of time.”

That was fine by me. More time to spend with Kelly.

“Lois, here, has some ideas for the first couple of poses,” Leonard said.

“Yes. We have this…concept in mind.” She pointed at the throne. “The two of us actually designed that just for this shoot because the plot of our book centers around it.”

Laine waved for us to follow her over to the throne. Leonard stayed at the camera, peering into the lens so that he was ready to snap a picture at a second’s notice.

“So,” Lois continued as if she hadn’t stopped talking, “we’ll have Kelly sitting, back ramrod straight, with an air of snobby queen. Go for haughty, mischievous and flirty with your expression. And you, Jase, will be at her feet, humble-looking and ready to serve…both your queen and her body.”

“Sounds simple enough,” I commented, drawing a collective chuckle from the three women.

Kelly went and stood beside the throne, placing her hand on one of the corners that jutted high into the air. The image of her, standing there in that old-fashioned garb, beside that regal throne, was so stunning, I audibly gasped. And I wasn’t the only one.

“Don’t move!” Leonard barked. The camera shuttered rapidly as he took the first of several pics. At first, Kelly held her pose, appearing as a Queen pensively touching her throne. But then, she turned on the attitude and just like that, she looked like a confident ruler, ready to brandish her power at a moment’s notice.

Beside me, Lois and Laine ohh’d and ahh’d while Leonard and Kelly worked. She was stunning, and more than that, she was a professional, already killing this shoot within minutes of it starting. Maybe I could stand to learn a few things from her because here I was, lusting over my co-model when I should be focused on working.

Next, it was time for couple’s shots. We breezed through the ones with me posing in front of Kelly on her throne, then Laine and Lois said their goodbyes, reminding us to bring the sexy in the next group of photos. I was more than happy to do just that.

With the authors gone and Leonard taking a few minutes to readjust the lighting, I finally had a few minutes alone with Kelendria.

“How are you?” I asked awkwardly. Really, I wanted to ask, Have you changed your mind about sleeping with me?

Her black eyes collided with mine.

“I’m well. How about you?”

There was a neutrality to her voice. So, we were playing the let’s-pretend-like-that-kiss-never-happened game? Cool. At least I knew what the rules were so I could break them.

“I’m good,” I replied, focusing on her lips. “But I can’t stop thinking about dinner the other day, if I’m being honest.”

The corners of her eyes crinkled with a smile.

“It was good food,” she replied, coyly.

I was about to bring up the kiss directly, when Kelly pressed a finger to my lips, silencing me.

“I can’t stop thinking about it either,” she admitted. “But I told you. What happens at work…” Her words trailed off and she moved her finger away, letting me know that she wanted me to finish the statement.

“Stays at work.”

She nodded.

“So…let’s get to work.”

I watched her walk away, smirking. Either I was off my game or she loved teasing me.

But you know what they say about teases.
