He caught the sound of a deep voice coming through the phone, and his curiosity was piqued.

“Harden?” she exclaimed, sitting up. A wide grin spread across her face as she relaxed against the pillows.

Her infamous brother.

He laid back, too, and tossed his arm across his face to give her some privacy. After her announcement that she did have a sibling, Mac had gone back to the service he’d employed to run checks and informed them of their mishap. This was the first mistake he’d been aware of them making and demanded they find out about Harden Rucker. But of course, being a civilian company, they weren’t privileged to the more sensitive information of members of the armed forces that didn’t want to be found. So he’d had to call in a favor with his contacts he still had with the Navy to find out about Sarena’s brother and should be hearing from them any day.

“I’m good. I miss you,” she said, shifting on the pillows.

He tried to act like he wasn’t listening to her side of the conversation but he couldn’t help but be all ears.

“Have you called Mom and Dad yet to check in?”

Why would Harden erase himself from anything that would pull up for family? Something like this meant her brother was deep and didn’t want any traces of family tied to him.

“What do you mean ‘where am I’?” she asked.

His muscles tensed, he waited for her to answer.

“Oh, you called my house? Well, no, I’m not home…I know what time it is here. I can tell time just fine.”

He could hear the deep voice growing louder, and Mac turned over so he could openly look at her. Her eyes met his as he tugged the blanket down from her breasts. It should be against the law to cover up something as magnificent as them. Her whole damn body should never be clothed. He had made sure he’d taken the time to taste every single part of her body, from her lips on down to her tiny toes.

He figured he’d have fun while she was on the phone with her brother and tweaked a nipple.

“It’s none of your business, big brother,” she scoffed and rolled her eyes, holding the phone away from her ear.

Harden Rucker wanted to know where his sister was? Mac would help him figure out quick and make him regret calling Sarena at this time of night.

Mac knew that the Navy SEAL was probably in some undisclosed country on a later time zone, trying to touch base with family. Mac had plenty of memories of apologizing for waking his parents when he’d call to check in.

“Well, if you must know, I’m over at my neighbor’s house,” she breathed.

He licked her perky nipple. Her eyes grew wide, and she tried to push him away.

“Are you crazy?”she mouthed to him, batting him away again.

Her eyes widened even farther as he reached for her again. He chuckled, loving this game. He moved closer to her but stopped when her body stiffened.

“Marcas MacArthur did what?” she shrieked and scooted over to put distance between them.

Her eyes narrowed on him. He swore under his breath, realizing Harden must have found out he was enquiring about him.

“I’m here with him now,” she said.

“Sarena, I can explain,” he murmured, but she cut him off with a finger in the air.

“Of course I’m safe, Harden,” she assured.

She glared at him, eyes still narrowed. He met her gaze, not ashamed at looking into her or her brother. As a SEAL, her brother would understand.

“So you ran a check on him, too, huh? Navy SEAL. Uh-huh. I know. I’m certain. Okay. I love you, too. Be safe and call me as soon as you can.”

Mac stared into her hazel eyes and knew he may have some groveling to do. This was unfamiliar territory for him, and he quickly wondered if it was going to be worth it. She tossed the phone to the nightstand and turned to him. The sight of her brown areolas captivated him, and he knew the answer.

She was worth it.
