I set my hand on the container strapped to my arm. “It’s not hard to wonder why. That thing could light up the darkest depths of any dungeon.”

Ben chuckled. “Let us hope we never have to test that theory.”

“If you do, then leave me out of it!” Phil spoke up as he wiggled in his seat and crossed his arms over his chest. “What’s next for you lot? Witches and their hexes?”

I laughed. “God, I hope not.”

What a pity Phil would be more right than any of us could have imagined. At that moment, however, I could relish being in the safety of so many friends. And there was Ben, of course, who had become something more than that.

I lifted my eyes to study his handsome face. There was that chiseled chin and smooth brow, and those beautiful blue eyes. He caught me staring at him and grinned. “Is something the matter?”

I snuggled up against him and closed my eyes. “Quite the contrary.”
