Last night with Beckham had been a fun interlude. The perfect way to end a crappy day. But that’s all it was supposed to be. A moment. A dance. Not me suddenly living in his mansion. Hell, we didn’t even exchange names in person. I’m certainly not ready to make him a permanent part of my life.

I’ve had enough of depending on other people. It wasn’t just the dumbass who left me high and dry. My sperm donor left when I was two years old. Went and started a new family, and never came back.

I still have trouble thinking of my mom. My eyes moisten as I remember my last year with her. She’d gotten cancer and I’d dropped out of college to take care of her. It’s been a little over a year since she died, and a little under a year since I met Dennis the dumbass.

I’d been mourning and desperate for someone to care about me. Dennis walked in and took advantage, the moocher.

I’m honest enough with myself to realize he wasn’t solely responsible for our relationship. In the beginning, I definitely loved him. But that seems like a long time ago. Over the past few months, things have chilled between us.

But it still hurts. I gave him the best that I knew how to give. In return, he gave me as little as possible; just enough to string me along and then abandoned me when things got real.

No more.

No more men. No more depending on others. Just me, myself, and I for the foreseeable future. I deserve a chance to spend time with myself, and to get back to the degree I’d left hanging. Invest in my future. Experience some of the fun I’d missed out on while taking care of my mom. Not that I regret it. I’d give anything to have her back. But I think she’d be okay with me focusing on myself and rebuilding my life with me at the center.

Beckham has no part of it. Just because I’m staying in his house, it doesn’t mean anything. I’ll just pretend he doesn’t live here. I acceptedAllie’sinvitation, not her handsome, hulking father’s.

Most importantly, he’s Allie’s dad! I’ll never risk our friendship for some casual fling with her father.

There’s only one thing to do—I’ll just avoid him for a few days until I find a job and a place of my own. The house is huge. I don’t even know how many wings it has. It should be easy enough to keep my distance.

Yes, we had a connection, but I thought I had a connection with Dennis, too. I’m not willing to risk my heart just because the sexy, older Beckham gave me the most goddamn sensual experience of my adult life.

I smash a decorative pillow on my face and groan into it. Just thinking about last night has my breasts swelling and my pussy tightening. Clearly, I need to get my mind and my body on the same page.

“Hannah, are you okay?” Allie calls from outside my door.

I remove the pillow from my face to respond, “Yeah! Come on in!” I replace the pillow.

“Girl, you’ve been napping all day.” She rips the pillow off my face and shakes her head at me. “We are going out. Tonight.”

She walks to the bedroom door and beckons me over. “Let’s go get you something to wear.” I follow because having a drink or two with my best friend sounds like a great way to get my mind off things.

A few hours later, we’ve had a mini spa day and given each other “makeovers.” Allie crushes it in skin-tight jeans with sparkles on her ass and a shimmery gold halter top. Her long blond hair is up in a messy bun that took twenty minutes to get right. She dressed me in a retro looking red dress that’s form fitting but surprisingly comfortable. Allie swears it perfectly showcases my hourglass figure. My hair is loosely curled, framing my face in a way that subtly draws attention to my cherry red lips. Heels complete our outfits, and we’re ready to go.

“Oh, hey, Daddy. We’re heading out.”

Beckham stands in the doorway of the foyer, shirt sleeves rolled back, looking like he just came back from a long day in his office.

I can’t stop looking at him. I hadn’t seen it earlier, but he’s got hints of silver at his temples. It just makes his golden hair even sexier. His forearms flex as he runs his hands through his hair. I want to know if it’s as thick as it looks.

When he notices my dress, his entire body stiffens as he gives me a heated once-over. I shiver in response. I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t help it. I love it when he looks at me like he wants to devour me.

“Want some company?” he asks gruffly.

“Um, no, Daddy. This is girls’ night out.” Allie quirks her eyebrow and cocks her hip, “I’ve been busy at school and Hannah more than deserves it after the week she’s had.” She grabs my hand as she makes her way to the door. “Don’t wait up. We’re going to have somefuntonight.”

???

Allie’s friend had just opened a new club. It’s the hottest place in town, and Allie has permanent VIP access. She greets the bouncer as we cut to the front of the line and enter the club.

The bass thumps, the vibrations coursing through my body, screaming for me to start dancing. “Isn’t this poppin?” Allie yells above the music. She leads us to the bar, and orders two pomegranate martinis.

Drinks in hand, we find a standing table with a good view of the club. Unlike the hotel bar, everything about this place is modern—all hard corners and neon lights. The tables and chairs are made of metal and plastic, definitely more for aesthetic than comfort. The dance floor is the main attraction, and even though it’s relatively early, dozens of bodies gyrate to the beat.

I finish my drink, ready to join them. “Let’s go, girl. I gotta let loose some steam.” It’s my turn to drag Allie with me onto the dance floor.

We bop and scoot our way to the middle of the crowd just as a Beyonce song comes over the speakers. A chorus of women squealing erupts in time with some heavy hip action. As I move to the music, I feel all my worries and stress melt away. With each song, each breath, I release the tension of the last few days, offering it to the music goddesses.
