“Yeah, it’s correct,” I confirmed, adrenaline already shooting through every inch of my body. I doubted Marrok would be at his cabin, but Henry would bail him out of prison. It would be odd if Henry allowed his son to rot in jail, so I needed to take matters into my own hands.

During the long car ride, I contemplated how innocent Ruby was when she asked Henry for protection. I could clearly see inHenry’s eyes that he loved his son and would protect him no matter what.

“Damn, this is in the middle of nowhere,” the driver said, slowing down before a patch of woods. It was dark, and the owls hooted as I stepped out, thanking the driver.

Once the car left, I began stripping off my clothes. I left them in a pile on the ground before shifting into my wolf form. The sensation of my bones cracking and muscles contorting was both painful and exhilarating. Ready for battle, I took off, darting through the trees as silently as possible, my keen senses guiding me toward Marrok’s cabin.

A flickering light in the window revealed that Marrok was indeed inside.

Here he was like nothing ever happened while our pack leader was fighting for his life.Fuck him.

I held my position, wary of getting too close and alerting Marrok to my presence. Through the glass, I could see him pacing around the living room, an ankle monitor on him. He was looking at pictures in his hands, and when I squinted enough to look, I saw Ruby in the pictures.

Rage boiled inside of me. He was still thinking of her, that pervert.

Suddenly, another scent jolted me from my thoughts- it was Rufus. I growled softly in annoyance as he appeared next to me also shifted into wolf form.

“Why the hell didn’t you tell anyone where you were going?”he scolded telepathically.

“I want to be the one to kill him,”I replied.“So he could never hurt Ruby or our pack again."

Rufus chuckled darkly.“We'll kill him together then. You can’t steal all the fun.”

I nodded in agreement, and we began to approach Marrok’s cabin stealthily.

But before we could get close, Marrok caught our scent andbolted out the window, his werewolf form tearing through the trees.

My heart raced as I dashed after him, Rufus hot on my heels.

“Don’t let him fucking get away!"

Finally, we cornered Marrok, pinning him to the ground as he snarled and snapped at us like a wild animal. But I didn’t care; all I felt was a burning rage that demanded retribution.

“Wait!” shouted a woman’s voice.

Blood pumping in my head, I turned, seeing Ruby’s mother, Maria, rushing towards us with a knife in her hand and a crazed expression in her eyes.

“Is she for real?”said Rufus while we still had Marrok pinned between us.

“He’s dead,” she screamed, lifting her hand and stabbing him straight in the chest without hesitation. Blood spurted everywhere, and we proceeded to finish the job.

I bit down hard on Marrok’s scrawny neck, a rush of power coursing through me when his blood spurted all over the ground. It was satisfying to hear his last gurgles as Rufus tore his head from his body.

The grotesque twitching of Marrok’s corpse lasted only a moment before it lay still, lifeless.

We tried half-heartedly to cover the body with twigs and leaves, but ultimately, we didn’t care enough to cover his body.

I bounded back to my clothes, shifting back as I struggled to catch my breath. Rufus did the same, looking just as winded as I was. Ruby’s mom stood back in the trees to give us space to recover.

“We can never tell anyone about this,” he panted, his eyes locking onto mine with deadly seriousness. “The fewer people who know, the better.”

“Agreed,” I replied, a little in shock that I killed an alpha- a major offense. If anyone knew, we would need to leave the compound immediately. “This stays between us. For the good of the pack.”

We walked over to Ruby’s mom, who was trembling and staring at the knife in her hand covered with blood.

“What did I do?” she whispered shakily, dropping the knife.

“You protected your daughter,” I said. “He had it coming.”
