“I trust that he will keep you safe either way,” Grandma whispered back harshly. She grabbed me by the shoulders. “This is actually good. Let him keep you as his omega so everyone knows you’re pregnant and in love before you start to show. If you don’t accept his offer, you’ll be the talk of the island, the rejected omega with no pack.”

“But Grandma,” I sighed, shaking my head. “This is a bad idea. I don’t even know Lio that much, and do you remember what he did as a job?”

“Alphas change,” said Grandma. “They change for their omega. We had him waiting for a while now though. Let’s go back.”

When we walked back to the front of the shop, leaving the stockroom, I was shocked to see Markus and Owen also there, with Lio standing in the middle of them. Markus had a wide smile on his face and Owen looked stunned as he gazed at my belly.

“We need to talk,” said Lio, whose arms were crossed.

“I’ll take care of the customers,” whispered Grandma. “All of you can talk in the backroom over there.”

My heart was pounding hard, and I was getting dizzy from all the activity surrounding my pregnancy. It was getting way out of hand with the amount of people knowing. If I was indeed carrying a vampire’s baby, I needed to go into hiding as soon as possible. Once we were in the backroom, I stood facing all three of them, who looked at me expectantly.

“Will you be our omega?” Markus blurted out, and Owen punched on the arm.

“That’s not how you woo an omega, you oaf,” said Owen.

“Are you really pregnant?” asked Markus, coming over to touch my belly. I allowed him because I felt a weird close bond with Markus and Owen. Something about working with them during my heat caused the attachment to form.

“I am,” I said, loving how his large hand caressed my belly. It had been a while since anyone had touched me like that. And it felt good. Tears sprung to my eyes as they all watched me.Stupid hormones.

“Lana, what’s wrong?” asked Lio, stepping over to me and placing a hand on the small of my back. He leaned his face down to my shoulder, his hot breath brushing my neck. “Don’t cry.”

“This is not real, your feelings for me. None of it is,” I cried.

He wrapped his fingers around mine, pulling my palm to his chest.

“Nothing is more real to me than the feelings I have for you,” he said, and that’s when I really believed him. The tearful joy in his eyes when he said that, or it was the sincerity in his voice. “I have never felt for any omega except for you in all my years of working at the heat clinic. My entire life, I’ve wanted you, Lana. Will you not push me away this time?”

I breathed in and out, aware that the outline of my breasts was showing too much in this huge grey shirt of mine. I was scared to give them an answer. My heart wanted to be with them. To have a pack. But my brain was screaming at me to run and hide.

“I don’t want to push you away,” I said. “But it would take a lot more than flowers to apologize for how you treated me at the heat clinic.”

“I know,” said Lio, pressing his lips to my cheek, kissing away my tear. I turned to face him, and our lips met.

Our first kiss.

We had our first kiss in the cramped stockroom full of boxes, with two other males watching. My eyes closed on their own accord, feeling how his lips moved over mine as Markus whistled.

“Nice,” said Owen. It was all background noise to me as I melted into Lio’s arms when he pulled me close. His sideburns brushed my face as he deepened the kiss. Our lips moved as one, feeling and tasting each other at long last. Ever since we were young, I wanted him to kiss me like this.

To pull me close in his strong arms and make me feel safe.

“We can continue this at home,” said Lio.

“Home?” I said, a little taken aback at how fast this was moving.

His lips twitched. “Wouldn’t you be moving in with us? Your new pack?”

My mind was racing.

I wasn’t sure if I felt all these warm fuzzy feelings because of the kiss, but I needed to sort my thoughts out about this entire thing. Especially if I was going to have a half-vampire baby, I needed to buy some time.

“Umm, give me at least a few days to pack. How about on Thursday?”

“I can help you pack,” offered Owen, his eyes hopeful, but Lio calmly placed a hand on his shoulder.

“No Owen. We will let her pack her things. Just call me when you’re ready,” said Lio, trying not to scare me off by the intensity of his pack, and I appreciated it. I did need some space and wasn’t about to move in with them at the drop of a hat.
