And now that I was certain I was pregnant, and that Xaden had been hurt, it was time for a change of plans and sending the Roulex on a chase would help me. "Great." I gestured to the room I had just vacated. "Give me your key and any comm device you have and get inside. Take Charred with you."

Ursmeve groaned as she stood, shaking her head. “Don’t let her get away.”

“Shut up,” I said, waving my scalpel between them. “Get in there with her and shut the door.”

“No.” Ursmeve straightened, staring me down. “You can kill me and him and every Roulex you come across, but I will not yield. I will not allow you to escape.”

She meant it. Her words ringing true down to the marrow of my bones.

“Fine.” I flipped the scalpel in my hand and pressed the blade to my jugular. “Then what if I take my own life if you don’t do as I say.”

“You wouldn’t,” she hissed out.

“Try me. I’d rather die than to allow any of you to get your hands on my babies.” I pressed the tip in and winced from the sting.

Xaden

Blood gushed down my body, pooling onto the floor beneath me. I stared at the streams looking unreal. I wheezed in an inhale and stopped mid-breath at the pain burning through my chest.

Charred had cut me up with glee shining in his eyes. The only part he hadn’t hacked at with the saw was my wings and back, but that was only because he got some kind of urgent message on his comm. One minute he was spraying my blood all over the wall, the next he turned the machine off and raced out the door.

Nothing would’ve stopped Charred from having his fun unless… Riley. My heart clenched. Had they found her?

I turned my head, blood oozing out of my shoulder, and I groaned.

I couldn’t stay here. I had to help her. My stomach heaved at the thought of these monsters touching her.

Pushing through the pain, I strained against the chains. Charred in his enthusiasm had cut deep into one of my forearms. A piece of skin hung loose as I jerked my arm, the shackle scrapping along my flesh.

I bit back my scream and blood coated the floor. My hand popped out of the restraint with a sickening crunch. I gasped, fighting the feeling of nausea, and moved to my other binding. Charred hadn’t bothered locking my ankles tightly and for that I was grateful. I needed to be able to walk and not wait for my healing to mend torn ligaments or fractured bones in my feet.

After working some more of my blood around my ankle, I was able to pull it out without too much pain. Then I freed my other foot. I stumbled from the torture plate and nearly crashed to the floor. Blackness crept along the edges of my vision. My body was demanding a healing sleep, but I couldn’t…not yet…not until I knew Riley was safe.

I swayed on my feet, using the various torture devices to make my way to the door. Damn fools had left the door cracked in their haste to go after Charred’s excited chitter.

On my way out the door, I grabbed a stun gun and an electric rod they prodded prisoners with. Now to find Riley. Except I had no idea where in this vast prison she was.

No guards were in the corridor, yet I couldn’t press my luck by waiting and trying all the doors. I would check the path to the roof and the shuttles because that’s where she should’ve been headed when they caught her. So, she had to be somewhere between our cell and there. And with the look she’d given me before she'd stepped into the elevator and I'd passed out from the tranquilizer told me she’d at least made it the upper level.

Plus, there were various medical stations up there, they’d want to check her health and if she was pregnant or not.

I fell sideways, striking the wall with my elbow to keep from falling on my face. And I hoped with every ounce of blood I had that Riley wasn’t pregnant.

Riley

“I’ll do it, I’ll fucking kill myself to keep you bastards from getting my babies.” I pressed the knife in deeper, the cold prick made me shudder.

“Wait, wait.” Ursmeve held up her clawed hands. “We’ll do as you say.” Slowly, she backed into the room and nodded to the other lab coat Roulex.

He bent down, hauling Charred by the arms, and dragging him inside with them.

“You won’t get away.” Ursmeve smirked. “There are guards on every level and at every exit.”

I already knew where the bulk of the guards were stationed thanks to Xaden. “Take off Charred’s tractor beam and kick it over to me.”

She hesitated.
