“Yes, I want to arrive early so we can spend time on the beach.”

I glare. “Where are you taking me, Foster Black?”

He smirks. “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”

“Are we in eighth grade? That’s such a middle school thing to say.”

“Come here.”

I stand my ground, widening my stance, and putting my hands on my hips. “If you want me, you’ll have to get me.”

He bursts out laughing. “Now who’s acting like an eighth-grader?”

Foster is right, but I enjoy our playful banter. Rather than keeping up the charade, I move to sit on his lap. He strokes my bare legs and hums.

“I love your legs, but I love all of you the most.”

“I can’t believe this is where we are,” I whisper.

“How so?”

“Foster, almost a year ago, you had no idea I existed.”

“That’s where you’re wrong. I knew you existed. How could I not with your beauty? I used to look at you all the time.”

This is news to me. I never noticed him even giving me a second glance. “I never saw it.”

“You weren’t paying attention. You just thought I was the evil dragon sitting on his throne.”

I frown. “I thought nothing of the sort. You were a bit much, though, and I was afraid of you.”

“I would never hurt you.”

“But I didn’t know that. I was just some peon in your ranks.”

“Don’t say that about yourself. You were never a peon, and I would never think that.”

“Because you love me.”

“Even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t. My employees are the lifeblood of my company. We can’t run without them.”

“And the company can’t run without you.”

“I’m sure it could. Let’s hope we never have to find out.”

“I’m sure that will never happen,” I assure.

“I hope not.”

“Where are we going?”

Foster chuckles. “You thought you would slip that in and try to catch me?”

“It was worth a shot.”

“In less than twenty-four hours, we’ll be at our destination. I’m sure you’ll love everything about the place I picked.”

“I have no doubt, but I would still like to know where we’re going.”
