“Can I go?” I ask, knowing he’ll know what I mean.

Foster sighs. “You’d be bored.”

“I want to be involved.”

Pausing mid-brush, he comes over to sit on the bed and stroke my face with his thumb. “Very well, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

“I don’t give a shit about the subject matter; I just want to be with you.”

“And I with you, but I’m trying to save you.”

“I’ll be fine. What does one wear to such a meeting?”

“Clothes, preferably.”

I roll my eyes, and Foster chuckles.

“I know that. Any type of clothes?”

“What you usually wear to work is fine.”

“How about I spice up the meeting by popping a few buttons on my blouse?”

Foster frowns in response. “You think I want men looking at my wife like a sex object?”

“I was joking. I’ll keep it professional.”

Getting up, he pulls off his towel and tosses it to me as he walks to the closet. “I hope so.”

“Your jealousy is showing!” I call as I climb out of bed.

Foster pokes his head out of the closet, responding, “Damn right it is. Now go shower before I make us late.”

I laugh lightly as I head into the bathroom where I take a quick shower, wrap myself in Foster’s robe once done, and then comb my long hair until it’s no longer dripping. I am in no mood to style it, so I leave it to its natural wave, the ends curling slightly. Foster then steps into the bathroom, fully dressed in a navy pinstriped suit, crisp white shirt, and pink tie.

When he nears, I grab his tie and pull him toward me. “Pink?”

“Let them think I’m soft. They’ll see who they’re dealing with once negotiations get started.”

For a moment, I’m worried the meeting might turn ugly. Foster can be like a tiger fighting for a piece of meat when he wants something. Even I am afraid of his wrath at times, though I knew he wouldn’t hurt me physically.

“Maybe I shouldn’t go,” I said hesitatingly.

Foster shakes his head. “Nope. You’ve committed, and I expect your input.”

“You said nothing about input!” I cry.

“Paige, you’ve had almost eight months under my tutelage. You know plenty. You know my company and holdings. You’ve had interactions with vendors and business associates.”

“But not enough. I don’t have a clue about what this meeting is for.”

He leans in to kiss my nose as I let go of his tie. “Then I’ll give you the file. You can spend the morning reviewing my notes.”

“I should keep quiet,” I tell him. “I don’t want to embarrass you.”

“I doubt you will. I trust you and have every confidence in your knowledge and skills.”

My chest constricts. “I think I’m going to be sick.”
