“I am as long as you’re here.”

“I love you, Lana. I’m not going anywhere.”

She put her head back on my chest, and I rub her back.

“Thank you for taking care of me.”

“You don’t have to thank me. I want you to promise me something.”

“Anything.”

“Promise me we’ll marry when you’re ready.”

“I’m ready now. I just need to end it with Declan. I don’t know how long that’s going to take.”

“But, you’ll be mine while you’re working to end it.”

The next day, we went to Lana’s to pick up her personal effects and clothing. I rented an SUV and asked Lucian and JC to help me. Paige came to my apartment so that Lana wouldn’t be alone. I took every stitch of clothing and personal item she had in the suite, but I left two things, the oversized locket that hid mine and her diamond-encrusted wedding ring. She wouldn’t have a need for either of them.

Meanwhile, Jordan had left several messages to let me know that his private investigator had some juicy pictures of Declan engaged in some unsavory behavior with Miss Sinclair. I didn’t ask how he got them. I didn’t care, as long as we had evidence so that Lana’s divorce would be quick and painless. I didn’t care that she wouldn’t be bringing anything of monetary value to our marriage. Having her was enough. It’s all I needed.

After everything was brought upstairs, Lucian took me aside and told me that the accounting for D.G. Software revealed some interesting anomalies. This information was relayed to Graham, who planned to call a meeting with his family members to discuss Declan’s improprieties. This inquiry would halt his actions against my company and might even result in the laying off of the people he hired from Eltech. I didn’t blame these people for leaving us; they were seduced by big money. I would take them back if they asked for their jobs.

After I spoke with Lucian, he left, and I found Paige sitting in a side chair playing on her phone while Lana slept. She looked up when I came into the room.

“Lana was tired. I think those pain pills are making her sleepy.”

“It’s better she sleeps. She needs her rest.”

“I’m glad you’re finally together.”

“It’s not over by a long shot, so don’t congratulate us yet. Once Declan finds out Lana is gone, it’s going to be a battle.”

“And what do you plan on doing about it?”

“I have a few things in the planning stages. Declan will no longer have the upper hand. But it will take time.”

“So, are you two finally going to get hitched?”

“Eventually. I asked her to promise me one thing, that we would be married. I want no other, and I think she feels the same way.”

“Five years it took for you two to get it straight. You could have had babies by now.”

“I want them. But I won’t push Lana. She needs to make decisions for herself. Declan made her doubt herself. I need her to be the strong fiery woman I met years ago. The one that turned me down and who I had to hunt out to give me that first date. I know she’s in there somewhere.”

“I hope it all works out, big brother. I love you.”

Paige hugs me, and I walk her to the door. After she leaves, I try to organize the master closet. One side was empty anyway and has been since Lana left years ago. I never used that side. Now she is back, and I want to hang her clothing where it belongs, where it always should have been.

I’m in the closet for over an hour when I hear Lana call my name. There is panic in her voice, and I rush through the door to comfort her.

“I’m here.”

“I thought you left me.”

“Never again. I was fixing your clothes on your side of the closet.”

Her face blooms in a wide grin, “My side of the closet?”
