“Zane!”

“Hi, baby.” Shit, don’t say that.

“How did your meeting go?”

“Great. We already got confirmation of the order. It was well worth the last minute trip. I’m sorry I had to cancel our dinner tonight.”

“That’s okay. We have plenty of time next week. Declan is flying from Miami to Los Angeles. He has a meeting with some energy conglomerate or something. He won’t be home until next Thursday. I gave him hell because we still need to pick invitations. Time is running short, and the ones we narrowed it down to are special order.”

That fucker, he didn’t even tell her he made a stop in Atlanta?

My voice was harsh when I spoke, “Oh, so he has to go from Miami to LA?”

“Yeah, why?”

“No reason. Just sounds like he’s a busy man.”

“He is, but I have you to keep me company.”

“I’ll try my best. Pick a night you want to have dinner, and we can go.”

“I still want you to come to my suite. We could have dinner and watch some movies. They have a great entertainment package for the suite.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“Zane, don’t be so worried. I’ll throw you out if you get fresh,” she chuckles.

We talk for another few minutes, and then we say our goodbyes. With what I know about Declan, I would make it my mission to seduce her into bed. I can never go to her suite, and she can’t come to my apartment, at least not alone. Maybe I’ll see if Paige wants to have a movie night. She’s not dating anyone since she broke up with Ben.

It’s Wednesday, and Lana is coming over. Paige is already here, and we ordered pizza. Later, we’re going to watch a movie. I told Paige nothing too sappy. When Lana gets here, she’s surprised that everything looks the same as when she left five years ago. I’ve gotten new furniture and painted a couple of rooms, but the rest is all the same.

“I forgot how comfortable this place is, even though it’s so big.”

“Well, it is home for me.”

The lobby buzzes, letting us know that the pizza is here. Before I can head to the door, Paige slips the money off the counter and is on her way downstairs, leaving me alone with Lana.

“You want the dime tour?”

“I can probably do it on my own since I lived here most of the time when we were together.”

“You’re welcome then. I’ll set the table.”

Five minutes later, Paige is still not back, and Lana hasn’t returned from her tour. I go looking for her and find her in my bedroom, smelling the cologne bottles on the shelves in the master bath. She sees me in the mirror and puts the one in her hand on the glass shelf to the side of the sink. She looks at me, sheepishly.

“I love this cologne. You haven’t worn it since we’ve been hanging out.”

The truth is that it was the cologne she bought me when we were together, and I couldn’t bear to be reminded of its scent. I had thrown it in the garbage after she left me only to retrieve it before I took the bag to the incinerator. But I haven’t worn it since.

“I don’t wear it much. Would you like me to?”

“It always smelled so good on you.”

“Next time I see you, I’ll wear it.”

She hugs me, and I hear the door open as Paige comes back.

“Come, let’s eat.”
