“It doesn’t seem like you’re interested in keeping me either. Why didn’t you just tell me right away?”
“I didn’t want to discuss this long distance.”
“You should have at least forwarded the picture to me.”
“Again, I didn’t want to discuss this until we were together.”
“So, where does this leave us?”
“In the same spot when you left. Nothing has changed.”
“You don’t trust me. Do you think I would cheat on you?”
“No. I don’t. But things can happen. A little too much alcohol and a seductive guy.”
“I’m not stupid, you know.”
“Lana, I didn’t say you were. You’re beautiful. I see how men look at you when we go out together. They wish they had a shot.”
“No more than women look at you. What did you do this weekend?”
“I went out on Friday with Paige, Harry, and Ben.”
“Where?”
“To Wicked Ninety-Two.”
“Did you dance?”
“Yes, and before you find out some other way, a woman I used to sleep with approached me.”
“Were you going to tell me if you didn’t see the picture?”
“Yes, I was. I wouldn’t keep that from you. I told her I wasn’t interested and said I was involved with someone.”
Lana said nothing and just looked at me. I wondered what was going on in her head.
“I’m sure she wasn’t happy.”
“No, she was not, but she wasn’t anyone that you need to worry about. She’s not my type, and it was a mutual agreement. We only slept with each other. I never considered her for anything else.”
“That’s shitty to do to someone.”
“It was mutual. If it weren’t, I would never have consented to sleep with her in the first place. Can we stop talking about this? It’s over, and unless you’re still angry at me, I’d like to show you how much I missed you.”
“I’m tired. I probably should go home tonight. The drive was long, and we got up early.”
“No. You’re not going home. I want you here with me.”
“Zane, I think we need some time to digest everything.”
“I’ve digested it, and I’m done. I don’t want this nonsense disrupting us.”
“It already has. We spent the last fifteen minutes discussing it.”
“Can we please stop then? Are you going to stay?”
“Yes, but I need a shower, and I want to do it alone.”
