“Zane, it’s just dancing. You’re not taking the woman home to fuck.”

I take a big gulp of my vodka and shake my head. “I don’t want to dance with anyone that could get me in trouble.”

“Would you care if Lana danced with someone else?”

“Yes, I would. I don’t want some guy putting his hands on my girlfriend.”

“And you won’t put your hands on another woman, just dance with her. Why did you bother to come out if you were going to sit around?”

“I couldn’t stay at home. I didn’t want to be alone. Is that a good enough answer for you?”

“Come on. I’ll go out on the dance floor with you.”

Paige pulls me by the hand, and we weave through the throngs of people until we find a small spot that we can move. We both start swaying to the music, and I’m getting into the beat. I feel a hand on my shoulder, and I turn to find it’s one of the women I used to occasionally share a bed with. Serena is tall, thin, and blonde, not my type, but she was good in bed.

I hug her, and we start dancing. I don’t realize it, but Paige left the dance floor, and I’m alone with Serena. She has her hands all over me, and it makes me uncomfortable. I gesture upstairs to the VIP section, and she nods. Serena grabs my arm as we head upstairs.

“It’s been a while. Where have you been?” she asks once we sit down.

“I’m attached now.”

“Oh. Then why are you here?”

“She’s away for the weekend, and my sister dragged me out,” I point to Paige, who is sitting on Ben’s lap.

“If you were my boyfriend, I would never leave you alone. You’re much too hot to be out on your own.”

She reaches over to stroke my hair, and I pull away. “Serena, don’t. I love my girlfriend; it’s serious.”

“I haven’t seen you in four months. How serious can it be in such a short time?”

“Very. I want to ask her to marry me,” it’s the first time I’ve told that to anyone besides Lana, and that was in passing.

Serena raises her eyebrows, “That was fast. You don’t strike me as the marrying type. In fact, you once told me you weren’t interested in marriage, that you were married to your company.”

“I found someone I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

Serena snorts and gives me a smirk, “I’ve never seen a man change his stripes. I’m sure it won’t last.”

I feel my anger rise, “Why would you say such a thing?”

“Because I know you. You like to fuck, not cohabitate. I bet if I offered to suck your dick right now, you would take me up on it, wouldn’t you?”

“I wouldn’t. I’m faithful to her.”

“Is she faithful to you? How do you know she isn’t fucking some guy right now?”

“Because she’s at her aunt’s home with her parents. I doubt she’s meeting anyone behind my back.”

“You never know. When the cats away, the mice will play. You should too. We could fuck, and no one has to know. I’ll be gone before she comes home.”

“I think not. You were a good fuck Serena, and that was all. If you thought our relationship was going anywhere, you were delusional.”

She narrows her eyes at me, then swings her open hand at my face. I catch her by the wrist before she connects.

“How dare you. You’re an asshole.”

“And you’re leaving,” I wave my hand at security and point at Serena.
