I’m sitting at home by seven, watching baseball and shoveling the third slice of a pepperoni pizza into my mouth. I decided to take a break tonight and just relax rather than go over some work. I’m having lunch tomorrow with Jordan Grayson, and then I’ll be busy after that and all day Sunday. I plan on working until Lana comes by my apartment. I feel lonely without her.

At eight, I’m half asleep with two bottles of beer and four slices of pizza in my belly. My phone buzzes with a text, and the only reason I get it is because I’m hoping that Lana is contacting me. She’s not; it’s Paige.

What are you two doing tonight? Want to go out with us?

Who is us?

Me and Ben. Harry is meeting us with his new girlfriend.

I told you to stay away from Harry, didn’t I?

Zane, quit being an idiot. I’m with Ben. I no longer have an interest in Harry.

Fine. So what are you best buddies with him now?

Ben and he hit it off, so they hang out now that Ben lives in the city.

Terrific. Just what I want to hear.

My phone rings, and I’m happy because I hate texting. “What?”

“Why are you so grouchy?” Paige asks.

“Lana is away this weekend. I miss her.”

“Do I detect a bit of sadness in your voice, big brother?”

“Maybe. I’m not in the mood to go out.”

“So, what are you going to sit around your apartment and mope?”

“Probably. I have a meeting tomorrow.”

“Early?”

“No, at noon.”

“You can go out and still get up in time. I bet you’re sitting around eating pizza and watching sports. Am I right?”

“Shut up, Paige.”

“Come out with us. Wicked Ninety-two has us as VIP’s.”

“I don’t even want to ask.”

“Get dressed and meet us there at ten. If you don’t come, we’re going to knock on your door when we’re all drunk.”

“I’ll be there. Stop nagging me.”

“See you then.”

I don’t want to go out, but I don’t want to stay in either. I’m bored, and I wish Lana were here to keep me company. Might as well have a few drinks and dance a little. Maybe that will take my mind off her.

Chapter 6

“What about that one?” Paige says while pointing to the dance floor.

“No. I’m not dancing with anyone but you.”
