I let Lana sit first and join her. A couple of people are sitting on a bench further down, making out. I can only wish.
“I expected you to call me this week,” she says.
“How? You didn’t give me your number.”
“You know where I work.”
“You could have just as easily picked up the phone.”
“I expected you to do the chasing. I was in Clancy’s a few times. You weren’t.”
“I wasn’t going to sit there like a dope waiting for you. Can we just get this over with and tell me what you want? Do you want to see me or not?”
“I do, but I’m also seeing Jeffrey.”
“Drop him. I promise you won’t be disappointed.”
“I like him.”
“Lana, don’t play games with me. I don’t like to be strung along.”
“I’m being honest.”
I stand, “Why don’t you let me know when you make up your mind.”
“Sit down. We’re only talking.”
“I’m going to be real with you. I don’t want to talk. I want to do other things with you.”
“That’s what scares me. You’ll have me, and then we won’t see each other again. I know guys like you. Jeffrey cares about me.”
“Have you slept with him yet?”
“That’s none of your business.”
“Have you?”
“Why do you need to know?”
“Because if you haven’t, then maybe he’s the guy that will dump you.”
She starts chewing on the corner of her lip, and it tells me that despite the intimacy of their dance, they haven’t had sex.
“He cares about me,” she insists.
“I’m not saying he doesn’t, but he also might not care to stay around after he fucks you.”
“Will you?”
“You need to take the chance to find out.”
“That’s not good enough.”
Her attitude tells me that she’s had guys tell her they care about her and then dumped her the minute they fucked her a few times. I’ll admit that I’m that type of guy that wants no attachments, but I haven’t found the right girl yet. I think she might be the one to settle me down.
“What do you need from me?”
“Nothing Zane. If I need to tell you, then I shouldn’t waste my time.”
