“Can we go back upstairs? I’m feeling tired.”

“We got enough sleep. Are you feeling alright?”

“I didn’t get enough sleep, and you know why.”

I chuckle and wink at her. We had woken up several times last night to make love, and even though we slept late, it still didn’t make up for lost sleep. We have three more days until Christmas Eve. Zane is giving everyone time off for the Eve and the day after Christmas, which means that we only have two more days of work, then five days to spend together.

“Would you like to go to sleep? We have work tomorrow.”

“It’s only nine. I think I can manage another hour before my head hits the pillow.”

“I wasn’t talking about sleeping. At first, anyway.”

“There you go with your fiendish tendencies again.”

“Me? You woke me up at three this morning with my cock in your mouth. You can’t blame me for being a fiend.”

“I can’t help it. You taste so good.”

“Not better than you. How about this—you get into bed without panties, and I’ll do all the work. I have a craving for something sweet. A returning of a favor, so to speak.”

Olivia rolls her eyes at me, but I catch the smoldering desire in them. I don’t know who loves it more when I go down on her, her or me. I would lick her all night if she let me.

“You’re hopeless, Lucian.”

“Where you’re concerned, hopelessly in love.”

Even though I beg, she ends up just wanting to cuddle. I’m noticing that she’s tired more than naught, even on the nights that we don’t have sex, which is rare. I’m worried that more than just a lack of sleep is the issue. The fear that she’ll get sick again is always in the back of my mind.

I watch her out of the corner of my eye as she eats breakfast once we’re back in the loft: a half a grapefruit and a cup of coffee. I ask if she wants anything more nutritious, but she says she feels nauseous in the mornings, so she prefers to eat light. Some of the symptoms of her cancer were nausea, weight loss, and fatigue.

“This week should be easy,” I say, drawing her attention. “The Christmas lunch is tomorrow.”

“I know, Zane has one every year.”

“This time, it’s going to be extra special.”

“Why do you say that?” she asks, confused.

“I’m not supposed to tell you this, but we’re giving out bonuses.”

“Zane always gives bonuses at the end of the year.”

“Not these types of bonuses. With the explosive sales of the virtual system and my cost-saving measures, we are way in the black. Zane wants to reward everyone for their hard work.”

“What am I getting?”

I shake my head. “Nope.”

“Lucian! Don’t be like that. Tell me.”

“You can wait until tomorrow. It’s good is all I can say.”

Smiling, she glares at me. “You’re a jerk.”

“Yeah, but you love this jerk anyway.”

“I might have to rethink that now that you won’t tell me.”
