“So, he knows about some of the stuff you got me?” I ask.

“Yes, but that doesn’t mean you should go trying to find out what. I swore him to secrecy. I think you can put me down now.”

“I’ll put you down, but it will be on our bed.”

“Luc, it’s your bed.”

“It’s our bed. In fact, I need to talk to you about something.”

“Is it a good something or a bad something?”

“It depends on how you look at it.”

I take her to the bedroom and put her down. We both sit on the edge of the bed, and I tell her what I’ve been doing. “My father has a beautiful apartment in this building a couple of floors up. This loft is not mine; it’s Noah’s. If we’re going to live together, it should be a place that we can own together.”

“So, you’re asking me to move in with you?”

“I did before, but you said to give it time. Has it been enough time?”

“Not really. I’d like a little more, please.”

I stare down at my hands, sitting in my lap. Olivia picks up on what I’m thinking and starts to play with the curls at the nape of my neck.

“Lucian, it’s not a no. It’s a wait a little while. We can still prepare for it. Can we go see the apartment?”

I reach in my pocket and palm the key that management has already given me. “Hold out your hand.”

She does, and I drop the key into her palm.

“You already bought the place?”

I halfway shrug. “It was a gift from my father. A future wedding gift. Do you want to see it?”

“Yes, I’d love to start planning.”

I see a sparkle in her eyes, and it soothes my doubts that she doesn’t want to move in with me. I take her hand, and we travel upstairs to see the new place. It has an open floor plan with fifteen-foot ceilings and walls of glass facing Central Park. The kitchen has a massive beige, and brown flecked granite island and gleaming stainless-steel appliances. The whole place has dark wood floors, and light painted walls.

“A dishwasher?” she gasps. “I’ve never had one before.”

“Except when you’re over. There’s a washroom, a full pantry, three bathrooms, three bedrooms, an office, and a library.”

“It’s going to take a lot of furniture to fill this place.”

“We can go shopping and have it all delivered at once. We have time if you want to make any changes. Noah is in no hurry to kick us out.”

“What are your plans for us to move in together?” Her voice is tentative, and I immediately want to allay her fears.

“Olivia, I’m not pushing you to move in with me right away. The apartment is ours. I can get things ready here, and you can move in when you feel comfortable. No pressure.”

“I want to move in, but after Joshua…”

“I’m not Joshua. I would never treat you like he did. You know this.”

“Just give me some time. I promise I’ll make the move.”

“Take your time.” Hugging her, I kiss the top of her head. “It will all work out. Don’t worry.”

Despite my words, I am worried. I’m not sure Olivia will ever make the leap to living with me full time unless we’re married. I think she has insecurities that she’s not expressing to me.
