“I know. I promised Rory and Hunter that I would be civil. I can be civil. It was almost four years ago, anyway. Go see her if you must, but remember who your brother is.”

“Noah, I’ll always be on your side whether I agree with what happened or not. I don’t plan on bringing it up either. According to her friend, Olivia, she’s happily married anyway.”

“You saw Olivia?”

“She works for Eltech. I don’t remember her, but she claims we met.”

“We rarely saw her when Lexi and I were together because she lived in California before she went to Australia. By the time she came back, we were already on our way to breaking up.”

His tightening voice makes me change topics once more. “Have you contacted the building management about the keys for me?”

“Yes, they should have a set for you at the front desk. I haven’t been there for a couple of months, so you might have some cleaning on your hands. It’s pretty dusty by now, I’m sure. I have sheets on the furniture so that won’t be an issue. If you have any questions, let me know.”

“Thanks, Noah. I’m heading over there in a little while, so I’ll call if anything comes up.”

He clears his throat. “Are you going to call Rory and let her know you’re in the city?”

“As soon as I get settled. I’d love to see her.”

“She misses you.”

I felt a tug at my heart. I missed my niece too. It had been months since I talked to her, mostly because I ended up snapping at her when she would call. I understood how she could only deal with that so many times. She was barely twenty-two when I left, and I’m sure she didn’t want to deal with her ass of an uncle when she had wedding plans to make.

“I’ll call her soon, I promise,” I said goodbye to my brother and hung up. Glancing at my phone, I figure it might be nice to be around family again. I was looking forward to seeing Lexi, but I knew that would bring potential issues. I had had a bad break up with her sister. And when we were still talking, Rory told me that she was involved with a doctor and that they had a child together. I couldn’t see it, but it was none of my business.

I didn’t have work to do yet, so I buzz Zane to let him know that I was leaving to get started on setting up my new place. If it were as dusty as Noah claimed, I would have my work cut out for me.

“I just need to figure out what to do with my car before I leave,” I explain.

“I have three designated spots at my building if you want to keep it parked there. I only use two of them.”

“That would be great. I was thinking of selling my Camry since I have no plans on driving it around the city.”

“What about when you go home to Boston?”

“Like I said, Boston ceased being a home when Cassie died. This is my new home.”

“Suit yourself. The spot is open, so if you want it, go ahead and use it.”

“Thanks. See you tomorrow. I hope you have something for me to do by then.”

“Don’t worry; I want you to work on some project financials while you’re here. Unless you want to work with the marketing team. I know you have some experience with that.”

“I prefer not to. I didn’t enjoy it much at Wilton.”

“No problem, we can discuss it tomorrow. I have a meeting with Henry. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Thanks, Zane.”

After I hang up with him, I grab the bags from Macy’s and head to the elevator. While I’m waiting, Olivia passes me with her nose buried in some paperwork.

“Hey, no hello?” I joke.

She looks up and smiles. “I’m sorry, deadlines keep me busy. Going home for the day?”

“I’m staying in Noah’s loft. I need to get settled.”

“Ah, good luck. See you later.”
