“I’m sorry, but I can’t give up my bed. Oh wait, you thought I was?” I smirk at her.

“No, I thought we were going to share the bed.”

“Then I wouldn’t be a gentleman. I can’t have a woman in my bed.”

“Too bad. I’m sleeping in your bed, and I hope you’re very ungentlemanly when I’m there.”

I don’t say anything. Instead, I shrug out of my coat and push it to my side. I move hers off her shoulders and pull it from her arms, then bring her onto my lap.

“Olivia, I love you so much. I want you in my bed every night. These past few weeks have been torture for me.”

She strokes my face with her knuckles, never taking her eyes off mine. I see tears form and spill over.

“I wanted to take it slow. I’m so sorry. I never meant to hurt you.”

I wipe at her cheeks with my thumbs. “Shh, it’s over now. Don’t cry.”

She buries her head in my shoulder, and I stroke her soft hair, inhaling her scent. I want to get drunk on her smell. I want to get drunk on everything Olivia. She shifts against my neck and plants gentle kisses along my jawline. I hug her tightly, never wanting to let her go.

“Do you want to give me the tour?” she asks, her breath hot against my ear.

“There isn’t a whole lot to see.”

“Show me, anyway.”

I walk her around the cabin showing her all the renovations I recently made. The groceries I dropped earlier are still sitting on the floor, and I retrieve them. She helps me put them away, noting that several pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream I got is now partially melted.

“They still taste the same. Give them a couple of hours in the freezer.”

“You’ve shown me everything but the bedroom,” she says with a hint in her voice.

I take her by the hand and lead her to the bedroom. The queen bed just fits the room’s dimensions, and the armoire allows for some walking space.

“Do you like it? There used to be a full bed, but it wouldn’t do if I were going to spend any length of time here.”

“And now? Will you come back?”

“That depends.”

“Depends on what?”

“You. Are we together?” I ask, hopeful.

She glances at me and starts to unbutton her blouse.

“Olivia, what are you doing?”

“Do I need to spell it out for you? How do I prove we’re together? Do you need to make love to me?”

“That’s a given, but I think we should move slowly.”

“And by that, you mean what?”

I shrug. “Long makeout sessions, dinners by the fire, cuddling, massages, whispering sweet nothings into each other’s ears.”

“But no sex?”

“That will come, I can promise you that.”
