The personality turn-around from how Chase was months ago is amazing. Maybe I should have told him I was pregnant, and things would have been different. Smiling into the mirror, I title my head.

“Believe me; I wasn’t. The hormones made me a raving bitch. You would have hated me. You were better off in California.”

“I don’t think so,” he argues. “I missed all the milestones that come with pregnancy. I never got to see my son come into this world.”

“And I regret that. I should have told you, but I can’t undo it. We’ll have another, and you can see that one.”

He kisses me while he zips up his jeans. I bend down to select a pair of panties from my dresser, and he slaps my bare ass.

“Hey, stop that, or you’re going to sleep at your apartment tonight.”

“Oh, no. I already missed out on sharing a bed with you for a couple of days. Tonight, you’re mine.”

I finish dressing and text, Lexi, letting her know that we’re on our way. We arrive at her apartment at 6:30 on the dot, as everyone is just sitting down to dinner. JC hugs me when we come through the door and shakes Chase’s hand.

“Where is my boy?” Chase asks.

“He’s napping,” Lexi responds.

“I need to see him. I missed him today.”

Assuring Lexi, we’ll be quick, Chase and I head to the nursery where CJ and Arabella are sleeping in separate cribs. CJ looks so sweet, and I kiss him while Chase strokes his hair and cheek. Satisfied, we leave them to nap. At the dining table, we sit down while greeting everyone.

Everyone is kind to Chase and treats him like one of the family. I introduce him to Emma since she’s the only sister that he hadn’t met.

Later on, he whispers in my ear, “Emma looks like you.”

I nod because it’s true. We have the same green eyes and blonde hair though I think she is even more attractive than me. After dinner is over, we clean up while the men sit in the living room and talk sports. I hear them planning a trip to a Yankees game. I’m glad that they’re accepting Chase.

“How is it going with you two?” Lexi asks, interrupting my thoughts.

“Good so far. The changes in Chase are a one-eighty from last year. He has been wonderful, and he’s a great father. I would never have thought.”

Case in point, CJ starts crying, and Chase jumps up to see what the problem is with our son. As Chase disappears around the corner, my nephew runs around the apartment with a small multicolored air-filled ball. Hunter grabs him as he passes by.

“Boy, Johnny is a handful,” I observe. “How did you manage with CJ, Arabella, and him during the day?”

“We’ve been sending Johnny to nursery school. He needs the socialization. It usually tires him out, but today he was home because they don’t hold it on Fridays in the summer.”

“If it gets too much with CJ, let me know. We can figure something else out.”

She shakes her head. “I love having CJ here. He’s such a good boy.”

Chase reappears out of the nursery cradling CJ in his arms. It’s an image that I need a picture of, so I pull my phone out of my back pocket to snap one.

“I think he’s ready for bed,” Chase says.

“I fed him around five, so you might want to give him another feeding before he goes to sleep.”

“Thanks, Lexi. Let's get going and get him home.”

We pack up CJ’s stuff and say goodbye to everyone. While I love being with my family, but Chase promised to tell me about his upbringing tonight. He’s off tomorrow so we can talk late into the night.

At my apartment, I bathe CJ while Chase gets his bottle ready. After I dry and dress him for bed, Chase feeds him. Our son is so tired that he falls asleep with the bottle in his mouth, so we put him in his crib. Chase sticks a stuffed animal near him, but I take it out.

“Why are you doing that?”

“I worry about him smothering. I wish you wouldn’t leave a toy in the crib with him.”
