“Baths haven’t been my thing since I was a kid. Come swim with me.”

“How about I swim with you if you’ll take a bath with me tonight?”

He smiled. “That sounds like trouble.”

“You can’t control yourself?”

“I can. Now get dressed.”

“I thought you said you liked me naked?”

“I do, and if you could walk around naked all the time I would love it, but it’s not allowed so put your bikini on and meet me in the water.”

Austin was already slipping on his swim trunks before I could protest. I liked to be cuddled after sex, but it seemed that he didn’t, so I sat up and grabbed my bikini from the floor. He was out the door and dove into the water before I secured my top. When I got outside, he was swimming toward his place, and I called to him.

“Where are you going?”

“I’m getting my sunglasses. Be back in a second.”

I settled on one of the chaises even though it was damp. In this heat, it would be dry in no time even though the humidity was high. I leaned back and closed my eyes to absorb some of the sun’s rays. I felt good and smiled. I was renewed and energized. At the very least, I would go back home having broken my long abstinence. At the most, I would finally have a friend.

Austin dove into the water and opened my eyes. His muscular arms sliced into the crystal blue in a blazing breaststroke. He got to my deck in less than fifteen seconds.

“You’re a fast swimmer.”

“I do it almost every day at home.”

“See, I knew that you went to the beach a lot.”

“Not at the beach. I have a pool at my home. It’s heated, and even when it’s a little chilly, I swim. I thought you were swimming with me. You promised.”

I rose from my chair and dove into the water from the edge of the deck. As soon as my head popped up to the surface, Austin was pulling me into his arms.

“Hey, you said swim.”

He kissed my cheek. “Oh, so we don’t get to touch each other unless we’re having sex?”

“I didn’t say that; I’m not used to it.”

“Well, I am. I love to hug and touch even friends, which I hope we at least are. I would hate to go back to Los Angeles knowing we won’t see each other.”

“We will. I’m sure I could spare some time for coffee and possibly a trip to In and Out Burger. I’ll have to work out like a maniac the next day, but it will be fine.”

Austin circled my thin waist with his hands, and his fingers stroked my back. “You’re thin enough. I bet that job keeps you thin. Do you work sixteen hour days?”

“Not a lot. Usually, I’m in by seven and out by seven unless I have a dinner.”

“With celebrities?”

“Sometimes. Usually, it’s producers or directors. Some of them are the worst divas, but once they know the ice queen is coming, they change their tune.”

Austin let me go, and I swam away to hang on to one of the stairs.

“I hate when you refer to yourself as the ice queen. Were you always that way?”

I shook my head. “It’s not a name I gave to myself. I know what people say about me, I’m frigid at best. I wasn’t always this way. I was warm and friendly in college, but a few bad experiences once I started working at Mountain Top Productions taught me, I needed to toughen up. I don’t have many interpersonal relationships, and after my last boyfriend, I decided it was easier to be alone.”

“I’m sorry to hear that because I think you have so much to give.”
