“If you want to go out tonight, we can. Noah won’t mind if you come with me.”
“Oh, my big brother doesn’t like you to go out?”
“No, it’s not that. He prefers that he’s with me when I do.”
We get up and say our goodbyes, promising to meet them at Vapor, one of the hottest clubs in midtown. I haven’t been to one for a long time, and I’m not even sure what I should wear.
After we separate and head back to my apartment, I tell Lucian that I’m not sure this was such a good idea.
“Why not, Lexi? You’re still young and if my brother gets pissed, too bad. You’re getting married, not dying.”
“I just don’t want him to be upset.”
“He won’t be.”
We spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing in the air conditioning. Around seven, Noah finally calls me.
“How’s Rory?”
“Fine. She’s home resting. I just got back.”
“Where are you?”
“I’m at my parent’s house.”
“Lucian told me that they went to Chatham for the weekend.”
I hear silence on the other side of the line as if he’s thinking of what to say.
“I have a key.”
“Oh, he said he wasn’t sure if you did or not.”
“Lexi, is there something you want to ask?”
“Not at all. I just was wondering is all. I’m going to a club tonight.”
“With who?”
“Lucian, JC, Megan, and Hunter.”
“How did that come about?”
I explain to him how Lucian and I went to the park and met JC and Hunter.
“It should be fun. I haven’t been to a club for a long time.”
“Just make sure you wear your engagement ring.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means that I don’t want guys pawing my fiancée.”
“I doubt you have to worry. Besides, I’ll be with Lucian.”
“He’s not the one I’m worried about. I have another call coming in. I’ll talk to you later.”
Before I can say, I love you, Noah hangs up. So, he’s jealous. I’m sure when he said to wear my engagement ring, it’s not because of other guys at the club, it’s because of JC. I know I’m on dangerous ground with him. Once Noah finds out he’s getting a divorce, it will get worse.
