“JC, his behavior is very irregular, even when we got home last night.”
I’m not about to give fuel to JC’s fire by telling him about what Noah did when we were having sex.
“How so?”
“He’s hiding something from me. He told me to be patient, and he’ll tell me when he gets back from his trip on Saturday.”
“He’s going away again?”
“He has to train an employee. I hate being alone in the loft.”
“You still don’t like that after all these years? I bet you still sleep with the lights on when you’re alone.”
I smile sheepishly because he does know. He took a few business trips when we were together, and I couldn’t sleep while he was gone.
“So, what of it?”
“Don’t get defensive; I’m simply stating a fact.”
“I hate sleeping alone.”
He smiles wickedly. “I can join you if you need a stand-in.”
“JC, stop joking.”
“I’m not. I can help you out. Brianna is once again going away. Her parents rented a house in Cape Cod for June.”
“Are you taking a vacation?”
“I can’t. Too much to do even though it’s supposed to be slower in the summer. I might go for a weekend or two. So, we can have dinner if you want or just hang out after work.”
“When is she leaving?”
“She’s already gone. Left this morning with two of her friends.”
“She does have the life, doesn’t she?”
“Yes, that’s my spoiled little princess.”
I see his face cloud as he says sit and his forehead wrinkles.
“You know you can do something about it. You don’t have to be miserable.”
“I’m resigned to the fact that I’m stuck for a while.”
“That makes no sense to me.”
“It should since you know my father.”
My heart hurts for him because I do know. Even with everything he did to me when we were together, I still feel bad. Though I know I shouldn’t, I ask a question that is highly personal.
“JC, how often do you have sex with her?”
He raises his eyebrows in surprise.
“Why do you ask?”
“You’re newlyweds. Most newly married people have sex quite often, but from what you’re telling me, I’d be surprised if you did.”
