“It’s delicious.”

“Let me take this out to Brianna before she complains I’m taking too long.”

“I’ll come. It’s a bit chilly in here with the air conditioning.”

He prepares a tray, but I notice he’s staring at my breasts. Sure enough, my hard nipples are straining against the fabric of my bikini top. I feel my face heat and stand up to go outside. JC is behind me, and his fingers stroke my spine as he balances the tray in one hand. My stomach twists as I walk faster, away from his touch. I know what this is about, and it can’t happen.

Chapter 9

When we get outside, the warm air is a welcome, and my nipples return to normal. Noah gives me a wave when he sees me. He’s hugging the wall by the deep end and his wet hair is slicked back. He swims over to the side that I’m on.

“Can I have a swig of your water?”

“I can get you a bottle if you want?”

“I just need a mouthful.”

I hand him my half-empty bottle and he drinks most of what’s left, then hoists himself out of the pool. I admire his glistening muscles. I look up to see Brianna giving JC a hard time about the amount of alcohol in the mimosas and Hunter laughing at him. Again, I feel sorry for JC.

Noah leans in and kisses me then pulls me against his wet body, his hand snaking around and squeezing one of my partially exposed ass cheeks.

“I hate this bikini in public, but for me, I love it,” he whispers.

The move is not lost on JC, and out of the corner of my eye, I see him intently watching us as Noah presses a kiss to my lips.

“Do you want to take a shower together?” Noah asks.

“I already took a shower, remember?”

“This one won’t be to get clean.”

“I don’t feel comfortable doing that here. We could go home.”

“I like it here, and I won a hundred thirty-eight bucks at poker last night. Hunter’s friends are coming over for some more tonight.”

“They are?”

I give him an icy stare, and he knows why.

“I’m not getting drunk.”

“Noah, it had nothing to do with your drinking. It had to do with the things you said.”

“Lexi, I was blowing off steam. I needed a break. I already apologized.”

He was right, he did, but that didn’t take the sting out of the words he spoke.

“I’m sorry, but your behavior upset me. This is the last I’ll say about it.”

“Thank you. I’m going to shower.”

After Noah goes inside, I settle back down on the lounge chair and tip my head up toward the sun with closed lids. I hear someone sitting next to me, but don’t open my eyes.

“Trouble in paradise?”

“Mind your own business, JC. Everything is fine.”

“Good, glad to hear it.”
