“No. Brianna wanted it over quickly. She went to live in Vegas after we broke up. I received the filing a week ago. I’m officially divorced.”
“So, you’re free to marry?”
“Yes, but we’re not going to get married that soon.”
“What? Why not?”
“Because I took away your chance to have the big wedding that you wanted. We need to plan.”
“Why can’t we get married in my parent’s backyard?”
“In Jersey?”
“Of course. It’s a nice backyard.”
“Lexi, your parents hate me. How did they take it when you broke up with Noah?”
I look down at the pillow and begin pulling at a stray thread.
“You did tell your parents you broke up with Noah, didn’t you?”
“No.”
“When the hell were you planning on telling them?”
“I was waiting for the right time. My sisters know.”
“You have to tell them. I’m not sure what’s going to be a bigger shock. The fact that you’re not marrying Noah or the fact that you’re marrying me.”
“I think the fact that I’m marrying you will be more of a shock.”
He chuckles and then kisses me. We start to make love again. A while later, when I call Olivia to let her know I won’t be home, she can’t understand me. The music behind her is blaring since she’s at a club. I hang up and send her a text letting her know I’m with JC. The response is immediate.

JC’s hand is between my legs, and I drop my phone on the bed only to be interrupted by the phone ringing.
“Let me get it, or she’ll nag me all night until I do.”
“Olivia.”
“You tell me what’s going on. I can’t wait until tomorrow or whenever you get back to the apartment.”
I get out of bed naked, and pad to the hallway watching JC hungrily survey my body.
“We’re getting married.”
“When? Tomorrow?”
“No, but soon.”
“Explain to me how this came about.”
