His face brightened, the conversation about the sleeping arrangements at her father’s house forgotten.

“Of course I do. What date are they planning?”

“Sam said mid-April sometime. They’re going to get two large suites, one for the guys and one for the ladies.”

He scowled, “You mean we can’t get separate rooms?”

“Why would you want to do that?”

“I want some alone time with you. I want to be with you and since no one, but Sam knows; it’s going to be hard to spend time together.”

“We will figure it out. Why don’t we discuss it when I get back from Georgia. We will have more than a month to decide what we want to do.”

He seemed satisfied with this and pulled her to him, pushing her shirt up to kiss her stomach. He looked up at her.

“I’m going to miss you so much.”

“Ditto.”

He pulled her into bed for another round of lovemaking. By the time they came up for air it was early evening. She finished preparing her clothes for her trip, and they ate a quick meal of sandwiches. She didn’t have much fresh food since she wouldn’t be in the apartment for a week and he was taking the cats back to his place after work.

The next morning they woke before the alarm. Xander showered for work, and she tidied her apartment. She didn’t want to walk into a mess when she got home. He dressed, and when he was ready to go, he kissed her and reminded her of their conversation they never got to finish.

“Remember what I said yesterday. Please stay in the main house.”

She didn’t answer him, only nodded. She wanted to be non-committal about it. She was sure that David had no plans to make a pass at her. She liked the pool house better than the main house. It was cozy, and she didn’t have to tiptoe around after ten, which is when her father and Felice usually turned in for the night. Besides, David was working and wouldn’t be able to hang out with her.

She promised to text Xander when she arrived in Atlanta and then again when she was in Sandy Hills. After he had left, she finished getting her things ready and took a shower, dressed and packed her toiletries. By 8:00 AM, she was in a cab heading to JFK for her 11:10 flight to Atlanta.

The plane was only half full, and she had the whole row of seats to herself. She put the arm up on the seat next to hers, so she had plenty of room. Some time into the flight she dozed off and was awakened by the squawking of the captain over the radio. They were on the descent to Atlanta.

She arrived at her father’s house just after 3:00 PM. She was overheated since she was still wearing the winter coat she wore to the airport in New York. Manhattan had been forty-one degrees that morning, Atlanta was sixty-eight. Ava removed her coat as soon as she pulled into the driveway and got out of the car.

Felice was in the kitchen when she entered the house. She greeted her with a hug. Her father was still at the office and was not due home until after six. She told Felice that she was going to stay in the pool house and rolled her suitcase through the hall to the back door.

The pool house was just as she remembered. David hadn’t done anything to it since she was last here. She peeked into his room to see if he was there but he was not. He probably was working and would be home later. She got herself settled in the other bedroom and texted Xander to let him know she had arrived safely.

Areyou staying in the main house like we discussed?

Yes, I’m in my old room. Stop worrying.

I needto make a phone call. I will call you tonight. I love you.

I love you, too.

Ava feltguilty lying to him, but there was nothing to be worried about. David wouldn’t try anything now that he knew that Xander was back in her life. She fell asleep on the couch and woke up to something touching her nose. She slapped at it and opened her eyes. David was hovering above her with his index finger poised inches from her face.

“Hey, what are you doing?”

“I’m waking you up. Now give me a hug.”

She stood up and hugged him. He buried his nose in her hair and kissed her neck.

“You smell great, and you look gorgeous.”

“Thanks, I think,” she nervously laughed.

“How did you do on the exam?”
