Fine.

She’s interested in going to the beach?

We’ll jump in a chopper and go.

She wants to spend a night at the most exclusive restaurant in Siren City?

Not an issue.

But tonight, I’m taking her somewhere a little more familiar. Tonight I’m taking her to the mountains.

“It’s a surprise.”

“I don’t like surprises.”

“I don’t believe that for a moment,” I say, laughing at her.

“You’re laughing.”

“You love it.”

“I just love you,” she says. “More than I should.”

Her words warm my heart. For the first time in my entire life, I feel seen. I feel cared for. She doesn’t see me for my money. She doesn’t see me for anything but who I am.

“I love you more,” I say.

I mean it.

I love her with every damn fiber of my being.

Right now, though, I want to give her an incredible experience. I want to give her everything she’s ever wanted.

Alex and I head out to my Jeep. We climb in, and she leans back in the passenger seat.

“Okay,” she says. “Let me think. We could be heading to the airport.”

“Nope.”

“It could be that we’re heading to a boat somewhere.”

“Nope.”

“A restaurant?”

“Stop guessing, love. You aren’t good at it,” I say. She laughs, shaking her head, and starts singing along with the song on the radio.

I join her, singing along in the most off-key way possible.

“Apparently, money doesn’t mean you can sing,” she teases.

I’m not offended.

“I’m doing my best,” I promise.

“I like your silly singing,” she says, and this is just another sign that we’re made for each other. She feels comfortable with me. She feels good singing with me. We aren’t doing anything super crazy. We’re just hanging out, teasing each other, and this is...perfect.

It’s a vibe.
