I bite my lip at how cute he is. Crazy. But cute. “And what fantasy is that? A night creeper?”

He pauses, straddling the window, and looks back at me. “No. A spy who infiltrated a heavily-guarded mansion to find the one thing everyone has been searching for. But it’s worth the risk.”

“And what is that?”

“The King’s daughter.” He wags his brows. His tale is shockingly close to the truth. “But now, I have to escape because she was too loud, and she alerted the guards. So, I must leave, Whiskey. It’s been fun while it lasted.” My breath catches and he laughs at my expression.

I was not loud.

The pillows have permanent bite marks that will forever hold my moans. “Oh, wait!” I rush to the bedside table, grabbing my phone. “I need to give you my number.”

I’ve yet to learn my new phone number so I search for it. “Here, give me your phone,” he demands, impatiently.

I hand it to him and he plugs his number in with a few quick strokes and gives it back. “There. Call me.”

He winks and then glances at the bedroom door behind me as if someone is about to come in. I look over my shoulder but the door remains shut with no sign someone is on the other side. When I turn back, he’s already climbing down.

With the phone to my chest, I watch him run across the lawn like he’s being chased. Ryker’s playful side is one of the many things I love about him.

My heart squeezes.

Yes, I said love.

Later that afternoon, still on a high from seeing him, I text:

Me: Can’t wait to be ‘loud’ with you again.

Chapter Thirty-One

Aspen

“Halli?” I knock on her open door and wait for her to look up from her bed. She’s reading something on her computer.

“What’s up?” She replies, closing her computer and putting it on the bedside table.

“I want to go back to the island.”

Her head tilts as she tosses around what I said in her head. “Like… forever?”

“It’s tempting,” I joke, half-heartedly. “But no. The box that came for me yesterday wasn’t everything. I need to go back. Also, I’d like to tell everyone goodbye. It doesn’t matter that my dad lied to me, those people back on the island are still my people.”

Today, Secret Service found out that if my father wants to find me, he can. Receiving a box here sent the Secret Service into hysteria. Somehow, he found me and sent a box of personal stuff from home. Pictures, jewelry, and knickknacks that I’ve collected over the years filled the box. No return address, but he sent it from the States. At first they were hell-bent on taking me somewhere else, but if he wanted to get to me, he’s proven that he would have already done it by now. Running from my dad isn’t why we are here.

“I’ll have to go with you.”

I was hoping she’d say that. I don’t want to do this alone. And she’s the only somewhat friend I have. After getting the box, it reminded me I can’t put this off anymore. To move forward, I need to be at peace with my past. And I need to do this before meeting my parents.

“You’re only saying that because you want to go to Bora Bora.”

She puts her palms up. “I’m not complaining, that’s for sure.”

The salty air greets me. Although, it’s only been a month everything is different as I step foot into the boat that takes us to Bora Bora from the airport.

Couples surround us, a mixture of exhaustion and excitement on their faces as they take pictures of themselves on the way to paradise. Me and Halli sit at the back of the boat.

“You doing all right?” She yawns and puts her sunglasses on, leaning back against the padded seat.
