“Saved me.”

“Condemned you.”

“You saved me. We have no idea what those guys were trying to do. You probably saved my life, in more ways than one.”

“I have also changed it completely, beautiful.”

My heart skips. I hope you like it, beautiful. I love you.

He closes his fists against his eyes. “In more ways than I have the current strength to name.”

I touch his wrist, right over the place where my nails shredded his skin moments ago when I was clutching him for dear life. The wound has already healed.

This is so much bigger than I understand.

But as someone who’s felt like she’s been living in a fishbowl her entire life, I’m more than ready to embrace whatever comes next. No matter how absolutely insane it might be.

It’s…nice. To not eat crazy cake alone.

“Do you mean that?” I ask.

“Do I mean what? That I have destroyed your world in all the ways I hoped to never burden you with?”

“Beautiful.” I let my lips part. “I’m the ‘beautiful’ you…say I love you to with every song? This isn’t a dream? I really am the girl?”

His throat bobs as he lowers his hands from his face. Heat warms his skin as he meets my eyes. “It’s not a dream. You really are.”

All of a sudden, on the ground outside a Walmart, I feel as though I’ve fallen headfirst into fanfiction. I have no idea what to do with this information, especially since it seems like I’ve gotten the tropes all kinds of wrong…

Note to self: not a superstar romance.

…this is a werewolf one.

Chapter 11

~~~~~~~~~~~~
My fanfiction is in the wrong genre.
The oil change took six hours, putting me squarely at I don’t have the ability to drive safely o’clock.
Under normal circumstances, I would worry about my mother’s response. She’s a stickler for plans, hates whenever they change, and makes sure everyone knows it. Well. At least I can’t ruin her dinner plans if I’m not going to be there for dinner at all, right?
Right.
“Does it hurt?” I ask my eight thousandth question as I pull into the lot of the only hotel I found online that had reservations available. Mid spring, during spring break, means finding a room is harder than normal. Especially on the edge of a tourist city in North Carolina.
“Does what hurt?” Ollie asks.
“Turning into a chihuahua.”
He exhales a laugh, rests his head against the passenger side window, and…watches me. “Only, as of late, my pride.”
I flush. “Why? You’re precious.”
“Yep. Precious in the sense of cute is not exactly what I want you to think of me.”
“I can’t believe you let me dress you up in all those outfits.”
