Page 34 of Losing Control

My afternoon with Libby was just what I needed, and all I could think about on my ride up to the apartment. Thankfully, we are caught up enough at work, so I didn’t have to make the guys work on a Saturday. They were pretty grateful, but I don’t think anyone was as excited as me. Any amount of time I’m able to spend with my girl isn’t long enough, though. Something will have to change, and soon.

Claiming Libby in front of a restaurant full of people only deepened my need for her. She didn’t pull away, didn’t shy away, and for the first time, I let her mouth tell me what I needed to hear without words. That she is all in on this. On us. She can deny it all she wants. Convince herself that this is all a charade, but I know the truth. She wants me as bad as I want her. She just needs to be shown that it's okay.

The doors to the elevator open and I’m met with a set of bright pink luggage and my sister standing with her hand on her hip. “Want to tell me why you haven’t answered any of my calls?” Savannah isn’t one for pleasantries, especially if you’ve pissed her off. I admire that quality in her, but sometimes I wish I wasn’t on the receiving end.

I pull my phone out and check for missed calls. Sure enough, there are three, all from within the last five minutes. “You really showed up at my door unannounced and upset with me for missing your calls from not even five minutes ago?” I’ll always welcome my sister, but I don’t appreciate the unneeded attitude.

She lets out a huff as she drops her hands. “You’re right. Sorry for being an ass.” A look of defeat flashes across her face for only a moment before her confidence slides back into place, but I notice it.

“What’s going on? Why are you here?” I ask, holding my arms out for a hug. One she doesn’t take. She never does. Savannah hates being touched, but I slip up from time to time.

“Wanted to hang out with my big bro, but I’m just tired and ready to crash.” I move to unlock the door for us, but stop short. The time on my phone tells me Tyson is probably home, and I’ll be damned if I have him anywhere around my sister.

“Have you eaten anything?” I'm trying to find an excuse to get her away from this apartment. “I’m starving and I’d love the company.” I’ll throw up if I eat another bite, but this is for the greater good. Greater good being not killing the Traveler’s point guard.

Savannah eyes me for a moment before giving in. “You’re not going to let me say no, so let’s go.” Thank god she didn’t put up a fight. I’m not one for being dramatic, but I would gladly drag her out of this building if I needed to.

“I’m going to the little girls' room,” Savannah announces as I take a seat at the Gumbo Shack. I pull my phone out to text Blake. She was pretty excited when she found out I took care of Jett when he showed up at their place. And I’m banking on her new fondness of me to help me with a crisis. And of all the things in the world, me seeing Libby twice in one day and Tyson not seeing my sister rank pretty high on the crisis list.

Me: huge favor…

Blake: ur pretty needy

Me: I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t desperate.

Blake: im not taking pervy pix of ur wife

She’s impossible. Just like Savannah. Which is precisely why this just might work.

Me: My sister is in town.

Blake: u have a sister??????

I’m both surprised and impressed that Libby didn’t mention anything to Blake about Savannah. I thought best friends told each other everything. But then again, we got married without her knowing, which she was pretty pissed about. Luckily, she is pretty laid back, though, and doesn’t hold grudges.

Me: Yes. And she needs a place to stay while she’s in town.

Blake: and u dont want her to stay @ ty’s place cuz hes a horn dog

It’s refreshing that Blake is a no bullshit kind of person. Unlike her brother. Sometimes I wonder how they were raised by the same people. They're so different.

My phone pings with another text before I respond.

Blake: bring her over…I’ll talk to L about it

I send her a thumbs up and tuck my phone back in my pocket as Savannah comes back to the table.

“So, have you figured out where you’re going to shove me for the night?” I choke on my drink. Damn sisters and their all-knowing powers. I suppose there’s no reason to beat around the bush then.

“You’re staying with a couple of my female friends, but we can still spend the day together before I take you to their place.” I’d love to tell her one of them is my wife, but I told Libby I wouldn’t make her lie to anyone she didn’t want to, so I’m not saying anything until I know how she feels. But I already sense my sister’s questions before she opens her mouth.

“Since when do you have female friends?” she asks with eyebrows raised, like it’s really so impossible to believe.

“Always have.”

“And you really trust them more than your roommate? The guy you live with on a daily basis?”
