Chapter Fifteen

“I heard something similar when I was waiting for you earlier.” Hugging myself, I glanced around at the shadows. “I assumed it was an animal so I dismissed it, but now…”
“Someone's obviously hurt,” Joe said, getting out his phone and cursing. “No signal.”

Staring into the distance, Joseph cringed when the sound came again. His jaw tightened before he set off, leaving me to trail behind. “We'll check it out on our own first, just in case it's a false alarm.”

“It's coming from this way,” he announced after a few minutes, starting to jog as the scream grew louder.
