I fell to the ground, my skull hitting the wood hard.

“Now that you’re seated, I can begin.”

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Savina’s POV

“Ah!” I screamed into the empty room.

“Does it hurt, little one?” he sneered. “Do you know how much it sickened me to watch my son marry a wench like you?”

He twisted the knife in deeper.

I bit down on my tongue to hold my screams, knowing that it would only make it worse.

“Trying to be a tough girl, hey?” he laughed. “You have some questions, don’t you? Why did I do this? How could I be so evil? How could I go against the code?”

Felipe had his hand on the handle of the knife. “For years, I plotted and planned. All I ever wanted was to be King. I had a vision for this city, but your father stood in the way. I saw it in my dreams. Me, standing tall above the buildings as the King of the concrete Kingdom. My destiny. My birthright.”

His eyes widened like he was a man gone rogue.

“Your father didn’t want me to expand my vision, he wanted to honor the stupid code. But I had bigger plans.” He sunk the knife in deeper. “The only obstacle was your damn empire. So, I knew I needed to take it, and I had to start with your father.”

My body shook from the pain shooting out of my shoulder. The rage poured into me, willing me to hold on to life until I was able to kill this man.

“You went against the code!” I spat. “You dishonored your people.”

“I may have dishonored my people, but I empowered myself!” He stood to his feet and turned away from me. “I knew small-minded people like Antonio would never understand. They didn’t see an opportunity like I did!”

He began mumbling to himself, and I reached for the blade inside of my pockets while he had his back turned toward me. He continued to talk to himself like a man gone mad.

My hand came around the handle and I readied myself. I only had one shot at this, and I couldn’t afford to miss.

Felipe turned back to me with an evil sneer. “Your father thought he was better than me. But no one will ever be better than me! I am the King of New York. I told him I would come for his throne, and here I am!”

He laughed maniacally, like an evil villain in a movie.

He crouched back down, and when he got close enough, I saw my opening and took it. I ripped the blade from my pocket and plunged it right into Felipe’s chest.

“Shit,” he hissed.

I made sure to lodge it deep into his chest right by his heart, so that with every heartbeat it sliced through his flesh slowly.

I got to my feet clumsily in front of him. I pulled the knife out of my body and threw it across the room. I drew my foot back and then kicked him on the side of the head.

“Burn in hell, Felipe.” I spat on his body, making sure to give him one last kick in the abdomen. He groaned and fell to the ground as the blood oozed from his shirt.

My vision blurred as I stood above him. I knew that I had taken a very nasty hit, and I was losing too much blood.

I pushed my legs as fast as they could carry me, but from all the blood I had lost and the pounding in my head, I was disoriented. I was only half functioning as I tried to navigate my way through this house.

I rounded the corner and rammed right into a hard chest. I threw my arms back, trying to hit whatever I could at this point.

“Why do you never listen to me, amor?” His hands came over my wrists, stopping my weak attacks.

I opened my eyes and found the comforting pools of blue that I had grown to know.

“Andres?”
