We had always been electric when we collided, but there was more than just electricity running through us. It felt… cataclysmic.

We broke into a new level in our relationship. It was more than just sex; it had been more than just lust and passion. It had been… more. It had been love.

We lay on the hospital bed in complete and utter silence. Neither one of us dared to disturb the peace that we had created in one of the softest and most tender moments we had ever experienced.

I ran my hand over her bare back. She had her head pressed against my chest, her other hand coming to cup the side of my face. I turned my head to the side and kissed her palm.

Seeing her so broken the way she had been had crippled me in ways that I didn’t want to admit. She was kryptonite, my Achilles, and the one thing my enemies could use to exploit me if they so chose to. But she was also a source of strength for me. She made me want to keep breathing.

“I love you, Savina Valdez.” My confession eased past my lips.

Her hand froze on the side of my face. She lifted her head to meet my gaze. I didn’t miss the flash of panic that crossed her features.

I tucked a small strand of hair behind her ear. “You don’t have to say anything to me. I just want you to know where my heart lies. I don’t just feel something for you, I feel everything all at once.”

Her breath caught in her throat.

I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers gently. When I pulled away, her cheeks were flushed and her brown eyes molten with passion.

“I know finding out about my father rocked you in ways that I will never be able imagine. But I need you to be patient with me. I will meet with Valerio tomorrow morning and I will come up with a plan. I only need you to trust me. Can you do that?”

Asking for her trust was like asking for her soul. She had been burned one too many times, and after finding out my own blood was responsible for the spillage of hers, I could understand her hesitation to offer it to me. Still, I asked for it all the same.

“Can you trust me to handle this, amor?”

She gave me a curt nod. “I can.”

“He will pay for what he’s done, Savina. And I will make sure that you get the final strike.”

I pulled her into my chest again before kissing the top of her head. There was a storm that awaited us beyond these doors, but I was willing to brave through it as long as she stayed by my side.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Savina’s POV

When I woke up, Andres was gone. He had only left me a message on my phone that read:

Going to speak with Valerio. I’ve be back soon—A

He had told me he loved me, and I had said nothing. His feelings for me had caught me completely off guard, and they had knocked on a door that I had been adamant to keep shut.

I wanted to scream everything I had been burying on the inside. I had never been in love before. I didn’t even know if my heart was capable of feeling love. All I had ever known of love was my family. I didn’t know another love that existed outside of those boundaries.

But I knew that what I felt for him had to be love. There was no other explanation for it. It was too strong to be considered anything else.

I would kill for that man. I would love for him, too.

But there was still a large elephant in the room.

Felipe Valdez.

My mind was torn between exacting my revenge and allowing Andres to do as he promised.

My phone buzzed on the bedside table. When I looked at the screen, my blood ran cold.

His name flashed across the screen and I froze. I took the device into my hands and stared at the screen for what seemed to be an eternity before I finally clicked on the contact.

Felipe Valdez: Come and get her. You have twenty minutes.
