Giggling, I turned in his arms and wrapped mine around his neck. “I love it. It’s beautiful. No one’s ever…” My head shook. “You made a monument of me. I feel really special.”
“Good, because you are. You’re very special to me.”
I wanted to scold myself for waiting so long and wasting time with Peyton, but I needed that. I needed that bare minimum bullshit to appreciate this. To appreciate Aspen. To appreciate this organic bond and all we had to offer each other.
“Thank you for waiting on me.”
His chuckle was light as he cupped my cheek. The feel of his thumb caressing my skin made my eyes flutter.
“I didn’t really have much of a choice, bae. You belong to me.” He sucked his teeth, and I could tell by the cocky grin that lifted his lips that he was about to say some crazy shit. “I could have took you, but my big brother told me to let you handle that yourself. Seems it all worked out, and I didn’t have to act a fool to get you.”
“That was very mature of you,” I said through my laughter.
He pulled me closer and lowered his lips to mine. Aspen didn’t kiss me right away. The longer his lips lingered, the more I wanted to feel them. Mine parted as my breathing became choppy.
“Aspen,” I pleaded.
“Kiss me.”
I did… with no hesitation. The kiss was hard and deep and nasty and shattering. It shattered me. Shattered me in a way that I was sure only Aspen would know how to pick up the pieces. As I moaned into his mouth, he pulled away.
“You still got Pussy Peyton in your system?”
“N-No,” I replied breathlessly, reeling from the best kiss I’d ever gotten in my life.
“Then you’re mine?”
“Yes.”
“Mm,” he moaned against my lips as he lowered his hands to my ass. “Good.”
Our lips reconnected, and we stood there kissing until my legs grew weak. Then, we went back inside. I’d gotten a tour of his place the morning after I first came, but just of the main rooms and where I’d be sleeping. Today, he showed me the room he’d converted into his library and told me I could read and chill in there any time since I told him my hobbies were reading, making my bouquets, and traveling. I loved a good excursion and hoped we could take a trip together soon.
“You’re surprising me day by day,” I said. “You’re very unexpected. All these layers…”
“You know what else has layers?”
My feet stopped as I sputtered a laugh. I refused to believe he was about to quote Shrek, which happened to be one of my favorite movies. He did, and that led to us quoting the cakes and parfaits scene word for word before bursting into a fit of laughter. This was probably the most unserious exchange I’d ever had with a man, but it was so fun and light and needed, and I hoped we stayed like this forever.
Or, for however long our forever would be.

After Thanksgiving
After Supreme and Nicole’s gender reveal, where we found out they were having a baby boy, Malaysia and I went to her parents’ house for dinner. I’d already met them as Dejvi’s brother, but this was the first time they saw me as their daughter’s man. Everything went well. They were cool as hell. The most important thing her father wanted to talk to me about was if his daughter would be safe with me. I could respect that after the crazy situation she’d just gotten out of with Peyton.
I could also understand that it seemed like we were moving fast to them. They told her she was more than welcome to come back home, but she declined. At the moment, she said she wanted to stay with me. I hoped she planned to stay forever, but if she didn’t, she was still going to be mine.
As we left their home, hand in hand, she asked me, “How do you know you’re not my rebound?”
“We was on each other before that situation ended. Even if you was using me to get over him, I’d make you fall in love with me and never want anyone else.”
When I reached behind her to open the door, she stood in front of it. Her fingers grazed my cheeks then lowered down my chest.
“You really want to have a baby with me? Or are you just prepared for the responsibility if it happens?”
