“I’ll be able to spend them when I’m in Dublin for the summer.”

“I thought you said you were just friends?” I asked, my eyes flicking from Ryan to Belle.

“We are, but after last night things may have ramped up,” Ryan replied, wagging his eyebrows. Belle laughed unashamed. I covered my ears and closed my eyes so as I could neither hear nor see if he’d added a gross remark at the end.

“Where are you off to?” Jamie asked.

“Le Louvre. There’s this wicked Van Gogh exhibition that Belle pointed out to me.”

Jamie dug in his wallet and pulled out a black Amex card from inside. “Here. No drinking today, Ryan, you need to be sober for tonight and you need to be at the venue by 5:00 p.m.”

“Don’t worry boss, I’ll be there, we’re only shooting down to the gallery and then we’ll probably head back to bed.” I covered my ears and squealed in frustration.

“Argh,” I groaned.

“Alright, Ryan, no need to rub Daisy’s nose in it.”

Ryan smirked, shook his head and held his hands up in surrender. “No sweat, any rubbing to do with Daisy is your job, not mine.”

“Beat it,” Jamie said with a low growl in warning, and gestured his head toward the door.

“Again, not my job. Ask Daisy, I’m sure she’ll oblige,” he replied defiantly, and Belle snickered.

“Do you only ever think about sex?” Jamie asked, and I almost laughed because it appeared to be high on Jamie’s mind all the time.

“I’m eighteen and horny, so that would be a yeah,” Ryan replied with a straight face.

“And you’re okay with this?” Jamie asked Belle, putting her on the spot.

“I’m eighteen and horny as well,” she replied, unabashed. Ryan laughed as they turned to look at one another and high-fived.

“Don’t you dare get pregnant,” I warned.

“If you saw the supply of condoms in Ryan’s luggage, I’d say there’s no fear of that.”

“Argh, too much information, get out of here,” I demanded, covering my ears again, but unable to erase what she’d said.

“Well, you started the conversation, all I was doing—”

“Belle TMI, I don’t want to know what you’re doing,” I said, cutting her words off.

“Right, well, the convo has turned kind of heavy in here and I invited Belle for a fun weekend, so…” Ryan trailed off, tugging Belle in the door's direction. “Venue, 5:00 p.m. we’ll be there,” he said again to Jamie before they disappeared out of sight.

Chapter 12

It surprised me how quickly I relaxed after Ryan and Belle left. It didn’t take long to regain the close, happy feeling I’d had before Jamie’s nephew had rung. Part of this was due to us playing a game of ‘getting to know you better’.

“Favorite song, and it can’t be one of your own,” I said.

“Hmm, I have many it depends on my mood, but ‘Every Breath You Take’ by the Police is up there. You?”

“If I’m not allowed to pick yours then it’s ‘Mad World’ by Tears for Fears.”

“Oh, good one.”

“Worst song?”

“Easy, Baby Shark, that song drives me fucking insane.” I chuckled at his choice.
