After the phonecall with my lawyer, I feel exhausted and the drama from the custody hearing hasn’t even fully unfolded yet. If I’m this exhausted from a single phone call, I can’t imagine how Summer is feeling. She’s always known how dramatic my ex can be, she’s heard and even witnessed some of the events that have unfolded over the years. But now, with her dating me, I’m hoping that none of this will have a negative effect on our relationship.
“The timer will go off in a few minutes, I’m going to run to the bathroom, can you turn it off?” she asks.
I look at her. Is she okay? I say nothing, but I nod my head and smile at her.
She’s gone for longer than I was expecting. When the timer goes off, I grab the recipe instructions that come with the box and plate our food exactly how it looks in the picture.
When she comes back into the kitchen, I have everything set up on the table, including a bottle of wine.
“Thank you. Sorry, I just needed a breather.” She says looking at the table.
“I’m sorry that you’ve gotten involved with this whole thing and are in the path of Marie’s wrath. Let’s have a nice night tonight, have whatever this deliciousness is and concentrate on us, yeah?”
“This is Old Bay Burgers, couscous and roasted veggies.” She smiles.
We have dinner and it’s amazing, I don’t hide my satisfaction for it, and I can tell that makes Summer happy. We chat about the day and once we’re finished eating, we work side by side to clean up.
“I want to put everything aside. I want to enjoy a night in with my lady.” I say, pulling her by the hand to the couch.
“What’s on your agenda, mister?” she quirks an eyebrow and grins.
“I was thinking we could finally watch Hamilton and then—” She stops me by throwing her arms around my neck and smothering my face with kisses. I’m walking backwards with her attached to me in her playful attack, dragging her with me as I sit down on the couch.
“You’re the best, you’re the best, you’re the best.” She says in between before pulling back. “I thought that you couldn’t care less about watching it?”
“Three things. You want to watch it, and I want you to be happy. And of course, I can finally be knowledgeable about some of the one-liners that I hear the kids say in class in the fall.”
We settle into the show and I fall asleep before it is over. I’m being nudged awake by Summer when the credits roll.
“So, what did I miss?” I ask.
“See, you already know one of the lines!” She laughs.
Not knowing exactly what she’s talking about, I smile, nod and rub my eyes.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know why I fell asleep, or how. You were doing a lot of singing. For someone who hasn’t seen the show, how do you know all those songs?” I ask.
“Because I’ve actually watched it before,” she says, looking down, then back up at me again.
“Oh really now, how come you didn’t say that to me earlier?” I playfully stand up and act like I’m mad.
“Because I would be a fool to deny watching it again.” She smiles.
“You’re lucky.” I point my finger at her.
“Oh, am I?” she crosses her arms over her chest, pushing her tits up in the tank top she’s wearing and stands up. She walks over to me and taps her foot, waiting for my response. But instead of something funny to say, I reach for her and grasp her by the neck to pull her against me as I put my back against the wall.
